Figured I can circle back to one of the earlier comissions and show some of the progression through the background. I know time wise I had to let it sit for a while after I had finished shading the main characters, like, I just didn't touch it for 6 days, simply because I was unsure if I could execute the vibe I wanted to explore, for the environment - just didn't know where to start.
But eventually you just gotta sit down and start somewhere, and I figured I'm not gonna worry about the tree-scape at all, and just do the flooring first. I knew painting in dark shapes into snow can feel quite nice, a bit sculpt-ery, and that helped me fall into the groove of laying down shapes to test, erasing some, adding more, changing some - it helped unlocking the blockage that was the worry around 'making mistakes'.
And then finally, things slowly fell into place afterwards- Painting out little foliage detail felt fun and nice, and it helped draw the attention - so adding the visual clutter that is tree-trunks at various points of hazy-ness, didn't need too much planning behind it.

I know I still feel like there's much I need to learn about environment art, but man, I'm happy things are slowly clicking
