Some progress steps of a headshot! Planning out a drawing with a complex design like this takes some patience and caution - gotta make sure to split the design into components so that adjusting, tweaking and correcting can be done without needing to redraw a bunch of details over and over again!
Layer management is a valuable skill to improve if you want to make your digital art feel less tedious or draining - though it takes some trial and error to start catching which parts of a drawing need segmenting, and which to merge - or when to merge!
I do recommend, if you at any point want to merge your flat colors or whatever else you decided to split, to save a version of your file that has all your layers still split!
I you realize after an hour of rendering that you gotta shift a major part of the piece, or forgot something- being able to access the original layers can be invaluable - otherwise you are forced to just scrap your carefully cleaned work, repaint it and just hope you manage to keep the quality consistent
