There has been instances where a heroic spirit suffer a side effect or a weakness during their time alive. For example there’s Achilles his weakness is his heel. Despite being a powerful servant he has a major side effect and this was during the time he was alive. So no matter which timeline Achilles is summoned he would always have that side effect. Normally when a servant is re summoned for the second time they usually don’t remember their past summons. But in Gil’s case he has clairvoyant, he knew what had happened to him in Fuyuki grail wars timeline. And its because of those events that Gil wants the grail to purify himself.

The figure that had to bear the burden for all of humanity’s sins. He was summon in the third holy grail war as an Avenger by the Einzbern but was quickly defeated, and merged himself with the grail. Thus corrupting it and letting out cursed mud that can kill a normal person or mage, and corrupt a servant. Then there’s the evil of humanity that manifests in the form of beast AKA the seven beast class in Fgo. You know two of them so far, Tiamat and Geotia are one such beast that threatens humanity destruction. Then there’s the evils of humanity in Pandora’s box in Fate prisma illya that destroyed a timeline. Won’t get much details In that one since it requires you to watch if you ever get into it.

For example, like how u said Gil wants to purify himself cuz that mud fked him up. I thought he'd be summoned again without any side effects from a different timeline

2024-12-30 04:50:08 +0000 UTCYou gotta remember that the grail in snowfield isn’t the same one as the Fuyuki’s grail. Mainly reason is that the one in snowfield is a just a replica. Same goes for the ones in Apocrypha grail, it was never corrupted in that timeline. Same goes for the grails in grand order, those grails were created by Geotia to form the singularities. The point is that not all the fate timelines has corrupted grails. Fate strange Fake is the closest thing to a sequel of Fsn but still a different timeline.

Back in his hay day he actually would do a lot of disgusting deeds to both women and children from his actual lore. Gil’s behavior in this route is especially more twisted, you could say to a certain degree that the mud of the holy grail tainted his mind when he gained incarnation. And let me remind you that the grail is corrupted, the mud of the grail contains humanity evils. In strange Fake Gil actually wants the grail to purify himself from the mud he bathe himself in Fuyuki. Oh and the Azoth dagger that Rin lend to Shirou is the same dagger that Kirei used to kill Tokiomi in Zero, and Kirei lend it to Rin at the end of zero.
