Reds Reactions

Thor- Thank you very much for another fantastic reaction for this next movie within the MCU, Reds! I really enjoy Thor. I love the mystical world of Asgard and seeing a movie all about the Norse Gods brought to life within this gigantic superhero universe. I remember studying a little bit about these Norse Gods in school, and I have always really loved and have been fascinated by mythology. Whether they be Norse Gods, Greek Gods, Roman Gods, etc... And so, I really love that the MCU has taken the legends of these famous Gods, and brought them into this universe in such an epic way. And for the most part... I really love most of the characters within this movie as well. With this being said... I have to admit, that I felt the same way you felt about Thor when I first saw this movie. I didn't like his character throughout most of the movie, until Thor finally comes to humble himself. Just like Tony Stark in the Iron Man movies. However, I've loved actor... Robert Downey Jr. for many years, in a number of his movies. And while Tony is arrogant and cocky, and more... For me, his humor... the humor that Robert Downey Jr. brings into his character, is his saving grace. And it's why I didn't completely hate him, even in the beginning of Iron Man 1 until he too comes to humble himself throughout the events of his movie. However, with Thor... I do love Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, now. But Thor was the first movie I had ever seen with Chris Hemsworth, so I didn't already have a love or appreciation for this actor that could have helped me really like his character in these movies right away. Thankfully, by the end of this movie, Thor comes to be humbled and good as well. And now... I have seen many movies with Chris Hemsworth, and have grown to really love this actor and his characters that much more over the years. Now... While I may not have liked Thor throughout most of this movie, the first time I watched it, and even still struggle to even after having seen this movie many times now, I do enjoy his overall story arc, that once again sends this character on a journey of self discovery and humility. And boy... did he ever need to find humility. I enjoy seeing his journey upon him coming to Earth, or Midgard... as his people call our world, after his father casts him from their home and banishes him to Earth in the hope that his son can become worthy. Worthy of being a new leader and King for their people. And so that Thor can come to see those not of Asgard, not as insignificant and weak, but as his equals and those worthy of being protected. And I really love Thor's friendships with Jane Foster, Erik Selvig, and Darcy Lewis... all of whom help Thor come to see humans very differently, as he grows to love and respect them. I love all of the fights Thor comes to be in, as he uses his hammer... Mjolnir, to knock their enemies down and to fly. I love the power of his hammer. And more so... I love that Odin sends it to Earth behind Thor, after imbuing it with the power so that only one who is worthy of its power, can wield it. Showing that he has complete faith that his son can find the humility and worthiness he needs. As for Loki... I absolutely love his character, who only continues to get better and better with every movie he comes to be in, as his actor continues to grow into this character too. He's actually one of my favorite villains overall through the entire MCU. Tom Hiddleston plays Loki brilliantly, and I've always loved the stories of Loki, God of Mischief. And this is exactly who he is... a God who loves to create mischief and chaos. And yes... his character is very complicated and confusing, which is the point. We're meant to struggle to understand him, as well as to be unable to guess what he's gonna do next. In my understanding of his character within this movie, Loki starts out as being someone who simply enjoys creating chaos. He was devious and he most certainly wanted to become the next King of Asgard himself, even if he would have to cause trouble that would help to bring out his brother's arrogance and selfishness enough so that Odin would find Thor unworthy to become his predecessor. However, Loki wasn't ever evil. Just jealous and selfish, but in a much different kind of way than Thor was. Sadly, it is upon learning the truth about his true lineage while sowing chaos upon Asgard to bring down his brother, that Loki begins to grow into becoming the villain he is by the end of this movie. And Loki is deeply hurt that his father and mother never told him he was actually born a Frost Giant... the son of the Frost Giants' leader no less. Which only heightens his hatred towards his father and brother, as well as his belief that he deserves to become the next King of Asgard. And Loki comes to be willing to do whatever it takes to become the next King. Do I feel that Odin and Frigga (Thor's and Loki's mother) should have told their sons the truth about taking Loki in as one of their own upon finding Loki abandoned by the King of the Frost Giants? Yes... I most certainly do. I think if they had, it would have changed a lot and it may have helped Loki not to grow up feeling so much rage and resentment towards his family upon him feeling like the black sheep of the family, or like something inside of him was missing. However, I also understand why Odin and Frigga never told them the truth too. I understand them wanting to protect Loki from feeling less than their son. Sadly, they never knew until it was too late that he did feel this way all the same. Loki came to be willing to do whatever it takes to become the next King of Asgard. And so he starts off by getting into Thor's head, knowing that Thor's shortcomings and weaknesses would take him down. Although... I do believe Loki when he tells Thor's friends that he never expected their father to banish Thor for what he did. And for a short time... Loki's plan works, as he does come to become King for a bit, upon Odin falling into what we might see as some kind of coma... I believe that perhaps it's kind of a way for all Asgardians to perhaps cheat death? Seeing as they are thousands and thousands of years old compared to the lifespan of humans. A magical coma as a way to recharge and strengthen themselves again. At least... this is how I see it. And then... once Thor is banished and Odin is out, Loki takes up the throne, but Thor's friends do not accept Loki as their new King, as they already suspect him of being the traitor. And of course Loki knows that those closest to Thor, as well as his father and mother, will never accept him as their King. So, he seeks out new ways to try to stop them all too. In the end, Loki inevitably fails because he underestimates the good in Thor and his yearning to become humbled so that he can become worthy. Thor and Loki fight, Thor destroys the Rainbow Bridge in order to save the world Loki seeks to destroy, and upon finally accepting his own belief that his father will never see him as the man he wishes to be seen as, Loki falls into the unknowns of space. After which, he is presumed dead by everyone. In regards to your confusion over Loki's decision to come back to kill the leader of the Frost Giants to save Odin... Loki certainly doesn't do so out of any love or devotion to Odin. He does so only to make himself appear good and benevolent in the eyes of his mother, who had previously attempted to protect her husband from the Frost Giant. And then he also seeks to destroy the Frost Giants' home, knowing that he could use their declaration of war against Asgard to his advantage, as a way to prove to his people that he can protect them by destroying their enemies. In a last ditch effort to make himself appear as a hero so that he can come to be named King after his father instead of Thor, who has beaten every one of Loki's previous efforts to destroy him. Loki has great power and tricks, which you will come to learn more about in later movies. Which makes him the perfect God of Mischief and Chaos. And he's always several ideas ahead of everyone else, which allows him to be able to constantly change his plans. So much so, that they are chaotic. And this is what makes him such a devious and powerful enemy, because Loki is hard to defeat. He is deceptive, kind, malicious, tricky, smart, etc... And all so he can accomplish his only goal... to become King. And Loki will do whatever he has to do in order to become King of Asgard. Odin and Frigga are played by Anthony Hopkins and Renee Russo, two actors I really love. In the MCU, as well as in many more too. Odin at times can appear pompous, and perhaps even cruel. Especially where his sons are concerned. However, he does truly love them both, even Loki. And everything he does in Thor, he does for the love of his sons. By being harsh, he teaches them the lessons they need to learn so that they can grow to become the men he believes they're destined to become. And while Thor does grow and come to see the wisdom of his father, Loki sadly grows even more resentful and hateful towards his father and family. And we really don't get to know Frigga too much, but you can see that she is a very loving mother to both of her sons. And you can see that Loki is most certainly the closest to her. I feel that maybe upon seeing the Frost Giant King attack his mother in her attempt to protect her husband, this might have even heightened his anger towards him, enough to spur his action to want to kill him. Idris Elba plays Heimdall, Asgard's Gatekeeper... and one of my favorite characters within these Thor movies. If not my favorite character. I absolutely love Heimdall. Heimdall is Thor's, as well as Odin's closest friend. And he is the Gatekeeper of their world. He stands guard at the Bifrost... the mechanism at the end of the Rainbow Bridge that opens the portals so the Asgardians can travel to other worlds, keeping watch so that no enemies can enter Asgard without him knowing it. Unfortunately, Loki has his own tricks that allow for him to be able to sneak their enemies in, as well as himself in and out without alerting Heimdall. And like you see throughout the movie, we come to learn that Heimdall has the great power to be able to see everything, both in Asgard and in all the worlds within their universe. An incredible power!! And I just love seeing how he is loyal and devoted to Odin and his people, and how sad he is upon Thor becoming banished from Asgard, as we see Heimdall looking down upon Thor with sadness in his eyes once Thor fails to lift his hammer the first time and screams out in anger and despair. Heimdall is just a phenomenal character, and I love him. Then... we have Lady Sif and the Warriors Three, more of Thor's close friends. Volstagg, Hogun, and Fandral, who yes... is played by Josh Dallas (Charming from Once Upon a Time). I really like these three characters. I do wish that they were more developed. Had this movie been a little longer, we might have been able to get a little more background on who they are and how they come to be among Asgard's greatest warriors. But nevertheless... I still like these characters a lot. And I love their loyalty to Thor, and that they're all suspicious of Loki's behavior straightaway. I also love seeing them come down to Earth to find Thor so they can bring him home, against Loki's orders and with Heimdall's help. Oh... and it's hilarious that one of Coulson's agents looking in on Thor calls these warriors Xena, Jackie Chan, and Robin Hood when they first walk into town, given the oddity of the clothes they're wearing. So funny! :) You will come to see Lady Sif and the Warriors Three again in future movies. Unfortunately, Josh Dallas doesn't return to reprise his role as Fandral. He comes to be plays by Zachary Levi instead, due to Josh Dallas taking on his role as Charming in Once Upon a Time. Seeing as he is such a major character in Once Upon a Time, he just didn't have the time to be able to play Fandral too. Which is too bad, but most certainly understandable. And I would much rather have seen Josh Dallas keep playing David, over him choosing Fandral instead. Because I absolutely love Josh Dallas throughout Once Upon a Time!! The Frost Giants are good villains. I like them for the most part. Although, I absolutely see Loki as this movie's main villain over them. I love the look and design of their homeworld, and that their power is to freeze everyone and everything around them. And they are clearly a threat. I just feel that Loki's actions overshadow these characters, and make them seem small in comparison to Loki as the villains. As for Jane, Erik, and Darcy... I really love Erick and Darcy within these movies. However, Jane is just an okay character for me. I think that Natalie Portman is a brilliant actress, and I do like her in a lot of her roles. However, for me... Jane is one of my least favorite characters in these movies. I love her devotion to science and seeking out to discover the truth about the universe and other worlds. I just don't like how she acts most of the time around Thor. And I am not really a fan of their romance throughout these movies either. I'm not really sure why. It's just that her character kind of rubs me the wrong way. However, I really love Erik Selvig played by Stellan Skarsgard, and Darcy Lewis played by Kat Dennings. I love Erik's protectiveness towards Jane and Darcy, as well as his devotion to helping Jane to complete her work, as well as his own. I also love that he is in such disbelief that Thor really is who he says he is, as he tries to convince Jane that Thor is just a lunatic. There is also a mysteriousness about Erik, which we see little by little throughout this movie, that leads us to believe that he knows more about S.H.I.E.L.D. than he lets on. He even talks about having heard about a scientist on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar who later mysteriously disappeared, and who worked with gamma radiation. In case you don't remember from the movie after having watched it a long time ago... Bruce Banner/the Hulk from The Incredible Hulk is this scientist he's talking about. And I love that he knows about S.H.I.E.L.D. And Darcy is just fun and really cute. I love her perkiness and this character's humor throughout the movie. Overall... I really do enjoy Thor a lot. Not more than I like the first Iron Man movie, but more than Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk for sure. And I think that it's because of Heimdall and Loki for sure that I do enjoy this movie as much as I do. Thank you very much for another amazing reaction, Reds! I really appreciate being able to continue into the MCU journey with you. And for the month of August... I can't wait for you to become introduced to Captain America, in Captain America: The First Avenger... the first of my favorite movies within this Marvel Universe!!! I can't wait!!! :) Thank you, dear friend! Sincerely, Heidi
