Seeing as we're in the darkest depths of winter, this month I'll be posting videos from the time I lived in St Anton, Austria In 16/17. Me, Greg and my actual brother Ben and his girlfriend Elena flew over there with nothing but a bag of clothes and a pocket of dreams, and after two mad weeks living in Innsbruck, we somehow managed to wangle a job each and an apartment at the bottom of this mountain. But as a result of our initial skintness, none of us could afford a ski pass, so we often had to fill our time in other ways. One day in late march, I decided to climb the mountain that had been staring me out through the window for months, but that had been too covered in snow to attempt it until now. It was a stupid idea, as I went alone, with no phone and in trainers. I couldn't help myself though. I had walked quite far up into the trees before with Greg but the mysteriousness of what lay beyond that was too powerful a pull. After crossing a steep, foot deep sheet of snow the size of a football pitch and only realising the danger when I was half way across, and then climbing some vertical rocks, I reached the summit. The view, as you can see was spectacular. On the way down I took a tumble, but it was all good. I didn't even get a scratch on Ben's brand new camera.
