When this movie was being filmed both Gwyneth Paltrow (Margie) and Cate Blanchett (Meredith) were nominated for best Actress Oscars (GP for Shakespear in Love and CB for Elizabeth - both great films) and Gwyneth won -I always wondered if it was awkward to go back to work together afterward. Cate went on to win 2 acting Oscars herself. This had such a great cast! Jude Law was such a cutie back then - I love him in this and the Christmas movie the Holiday (already putting in my bid for Christmas 2024 lol).

Classic. 😆 Anyhow, I love how creepy this movie is. It has just the right amount of tension and suspense. And the acting is all superb. I think the movie was nominated for several Oscars, including a best supporting for Jude Law. The movie pulls heavily from a French film called Plein Soleil which has many of the same artistic themes and framing and is also based on the same book from 1955 by an author named Patricia Highsmith. She has some really good books, for those interested. There is actually 5 books in her Tom Ripley series. Another of these books was made into a movie called RIPLEY'S GAME starring John Malkovich (Teddy "KGB" in Rounders) as Ripley. It's also quite good. They are also in works to make a television series called RIPLEY that follows the murderous adventures of Tom Ripley. And Asia,... Matt Damon did indeed both sing and play the piano in this movie. That was really him singing!

It's one of my all time favorites and I think it's arguably Matt Damon's best acting performance. Thanks for this one! I'm going to love watching this with you and I hope you like it!
