Watched the whole series with you guys from start to finish! Mostly on YouTube. Dexter as a logger at the end seems to be his penance, punishing himself with hard labor and the constant torment of the sounds of chainsaws (the weapon that killed his mother). You guys have great energy! Looking forward to watching your reactions to New Blood and then hopefully Original Sin!

2025-02-11 11:03:09 +0000 UTCit should have went from dexter in hospital watching over deb, confessing his guilt - with monitors on - him holding her hand, fade to 6mo later - we see harrison running on a beach in Argentina with Hannah right behind him, then we see harrison go 'Found you!' and dexter pops out behind a tree playfully 'you did! you found me' then hannah say 'what times the plane get in again?' and dexter say 'as far as i know, (looks at watch) about 20 min ago'.... then we see a car/taxi pull up, and we see a close up of feet walking toward them - reveal that its deb, who just arrived from her plane ride to visit them in Argentina. Harrison as they walk toward the house asks 'how long are you staying?' with deb saying 'idk how long do you WANT me to stay?" and harrison yell '600 million days!' and we fade out that way - so we have the core family left for any future sequel possibility. as Dexter is the last one inside, he double takes out toward the water before entering the house and he sees the ghost of Harry, who waves and smiles at Dexter - who is happy that dexter proved him wrong and is now happy with a family - without killing ... so it appears..."

In the end, as he said himself, Dexter destroyed all the people around him: Doakes, Rita, Laguarta, Debra and if we go back further his own adoptive father who ended his life because of him and what he saw with his promotive eyes of what Dexter really did. When you do harm (even if he only did it to those who deserve it) you only reap evil and suffering from all of you and Dexter paid a high price. He lost everything he had....

2025-01-02 13:18:54 +0000 UTCThe ending made sense. The fans just wanted what they wanted but life is unpredictable and the ending moved in that direction. The whole series was always based in the results of decisions made by Dexter and Deb. For example, if Deb hadn't called Dexter when she did at the end of season 4, Rita may have lived, he had to decide between capturing Trinity and going to support his sister who witnessed a suicide. He chose and Trinity followed him right to his workplace and downfall. His decision to not make that kill in s.08.e11 was about his values and priorities, but it came back to haunt him, much like s.4's ending. The writers took shit for this but each season of Dexter was a special one. Ending was awesome in my humble opinion.

He threw his life away, got his sister killed, sent his son to a faraway country and abandoned him. Basically made Harrison an orphan. He could have left him with Astor and Cody and his grandparents. Instead he ruined everything and did it all for nothing, just to end up starting all over again.

I loved it…not because I wanted Deb to die and for him to fake his own death, but it was a brilliant dramatic ending for a brilliant show, which MADE SENSE. He knew Deb was never going to be ok and was surviving in a vegetative coma by a life support machine, which was awful. I’ve experienced that in my life with a parent, and it’s heartbreaking. He chose to lay her to rest, and did so where he put all his other victims, as he saw Deb as being another victim of his, hence him changing into his ‘kill’ clothing to go to take off her life support and take her to sea. He only did that when going to kill or stuff linked with that. Then he knew he had to protect Harrison and Hannah from him, as thought that they would become victims of his lifestyle and choices sooner or later, like Rita and Deb, so chose to let them believe he had died, so they could live their lives safely. So he chose to do so and the ending was showing him doing what was best…living life in solitary, without anybody he loved in his life, so as to protect them from him. So heartbreaking. And it took about 10 years before New Blood came out, which is also brilliant, in spite of hating the ending to that. I loved every bit of Dexter 1-8, always have done. But my gosh, I cried my eyes out during this last episode when I first saw it. Still brings tears to my eyes now. So glad you enjoyed the show. It’s one of the very best of all time crime dramas for me! Happy New Year to you guys, the kids too, and all other people reading this 💛

He is protecting them from him by providing a way for them to think he has died, and then living his life in solitary so as not to bring harm anybody he loves through his actions and lifestyle. He buried Deb at sea where he laid all his others victims, as she was a victim of his, in a non-direct way. Always made sense. Very sad, but makes complete sense. I’m so glad you always thought it made sense too.

He "unethically" pulled the plug, provided Harrison a much needed mother figure, and regressed into the Dexter of old-- swallowed by grief and a hurricane. This ending always made sense to me.

When this series first came out I was Leary about him playing a killer like this because Six Feet Under had just ended and I loved him in that. Such a different role. That would be another great series to watch too. The very last season of that show was well done and I balled like a baby. Of course Dexter grew on me just like he does with everyone. Loved taking the journey with you on this!

So much so that that's why 8 years later they released the one and only season of Dexter New Blood to try to fix this ending. I used to hate it also but with time I've learned to appreciate it more. Just 10 episodes left to wrap up the Dexter universe. 😢 oh and yeah his intention was to die in the storm he happened to survive with that luck we've seen him have throughout the series.

But the one good thing about it is it finally gave us the ending that the series should have had. I always suspected this finale was designed to keep the possibility of a reboot open...$$$$$$

Having said that, Jennifer Carpenter said she was happy with the ending and thought it was fitting for Deb to die because she would have never found peace had she kept living.

You folks have to decide on if they did a good job of doing that. Seems like yesterday when you guys started the series and Asia was like something is wrong with Dexter, I can never cheer for him. Few episodes in and she is directing on who Dex should go after next LOL. It was really fun rewatching this with you two. What a crazy ride right?

I’m channeling Deb… *** SPOILERS BELOW *** I never would’ve guessed what happened to Deb and for a moment when Dexter was taking all the equipment off of her, I thought she was going to wake up like they faked her condition to catch Saxon. So, Dexter left Harrison with Hannah because he thought he would be better off with Hannah and Dexter pulled a Jimmy McGill and seems to be living with a new identity as a lumberjack somewhere else. I can see why the producers got backlash! I’m pissed off!!! 😡 THIS is how Dexter ended?!??? At least they should’ve let Deb have a happy ending with Quinn. This is bullshit!!

2023-12-13 06:06:18 +0000 UTCAlright here we go👏 Earlier on in the show Lumen shows up and she kills everybody associated to what happened to her. Like I commented in season 5, Lumen was very important. Like Luminol glows blood to be blue, Lumen showed Dexter his path for freedom of his need but he just didn’t realize it. After Dexter killed those associated to his mother’s death he didn’t realize it right away but he did end up finding that he didn’t feel like he needed to kill anymore. Not only did Hannah (like Lumen) give him that feeling of looking to the future, but his need was also associated to revenge on the people who killed his mother. He probably would for sure be killing for the rest of his life, if it wasn’t for LaGuerta, who allowed him the chance for full peace of mind in an attempt to catch him because until then it was the kill that could never be for Dexter. Dexter also pulls the plug for Deb just like she said she would do for him in season 3 because “she would never let him suffer”. Like Travis’s “angel” or good was his sister, Dexter had the same case. His Darkness manifested into the form of his brother Brian and a neutral force of it being his father Harry who focused it on specifically bad people. Finally his sister who was his angel, didn’t want him to kill in general but Dexter manipulated and corrupted her to a point where she was a whole different person that could handle it but didn’t want to know about it, to eventually being ok with it. Dexter Finally realized that he brings darkness to anyone near him not realizing it after Rita, but after Deb because as Dexter said in episode 1 “if I could have feelings for anyone they would be for Deb”. So he decided to try to end himself knowing his son would be safer with Hannah though somehow surviving the storm he believed it to be a second chance, so he left to live alone knowing he can’t get the happy ending just like he’s seen and been told time and time again. Until Dexter New Blood where you shall see the rest😉.

Deb was my favorite and this absolutely upset me! Like why would you make us believe she'd get through it and then pull the rug from under us??!! Not cool!! Informingly, the laws are: not A and B is the same as not A or not B, and not A or B is the same as not A and not B. It perfectly describes their mentality towards each other.
