Bloodline chapter 5

Chapter 5 -

"Who are you?" Iris asked bluntly, staring up at the older girl who had wrapped her arms around her big brother's arm.

"Iris, manners," Harry said mildly, though it seemed to work wonders as Iris seemed suitably chastised.

"Sorry, Harry," She said apologetically. "But who is she?" She asked once again, though reasonably more politely.

"This is Daphne Greengrass," Harry introduced her as he slowly pulled his arm out. "She's a friend from school,"

"I'm his best friend," Daphne corrected him before looking at the Potter twins. "You both must be Iris and Daniel, Harry's brother and sister. He's very fond of you both," She stated matter-of-factly.

"We're aware, thank you," Iris said with a sort of forced politeness, crossing her arms.

"Nice to meet you," Daniel said neutrally.

"You as well," Daphne nodded to him before turning to Harry. "My mother wants to meet you all before you get on the train,"

"Well, we've got time," Harry shrugged. "Let's go,"

"Excellent," Daphne smiled before they all walked down the platform to meet Daphne's parents.

The Greengrass family was a family that Harry had known since he was a first year, they were purebloods but were thankfully very different when it came to other purebloods. They did not rant and rave about muggles, seeing as they were some of the few magical families that had businesses in both worlds. Nor did they look down on those with less money or status than them. Overall, they were pretty nice.

Cyrus Greengrass was a well-dressed man with neat black hair and blue eyes exactly like Daphne's, standing next to him was his wife, Elizabeth Greengrass. A beautiful woman dressed in equally expensive clothes. She had brown eyes and was the obvious source of Daphne's silvery-blonde hair, though, unlike her daughter, she preferred to keep hers tucked up into an elaborate bun. Alongside them was a small girl that Harry recognised as Daphne's little sister, Astoria, who had inherited her father's hair colour and her mother's eyes.

"Ah, Harry!" Elizabeth smiled brightly at him as he approached. "Look at you, you're growing more and more handsome each day," She said, pulling him into a warm hug.

"Thank you, Mrs Greengrass," Harry said with a small blush as she let him go and started looking him over.

"You've certainly been growing well, I remember when I first saw you, you were barely bigger than a twig," She told him, patting his cheek in a motherly fashion. "And please, Harry, I've told you to call me Elizabeth. Or 'Liz' if you want."

"You will not be calling my mother 'Liz'," Daphne cut in firmly.

"Harry," Mr Greengrass cut in, offering Harry his hand.

"Sir," Harry said respectfully, shaking his hand. "How are you?"

"As well as can be, I suppose," Mr Greengrass answered with a small smile. "You remember my youngest, I trust,"

"Hi Harry," Astoria said with a small wave. "Long time no see,"

"Yeah, you're growing up nicely," Harry smiled at her. "A couple of years and you'll be Hogwarts ready,"

"Dad and Mum won't let me go now," Astoria crossed her arms and pouted up at her parents, both of whom ignored her with expert ease.

"Allow me to introduce my family," Harry said, gesturing to the twins. "This is Daniel and Iris Potter,"

"A pleasure to meet you both," Elizabeth said warmly to the two. They both opened their mouths to respond when suddenly a new voice called out.

"Harry!" The two looked to their brother in time to see a pink-haired girl jump on his back, wrapping her arms and legs around him. "Long time no see," She grinned at him.

"Alright Nym," Harry said, not looking surprised that this girl had just jumped on top of him, he turned to his siblings and decided to introduce the new arrival. "Allow me to introduce my other friend,"

"I'm his best friend actually," The girl cut in with a grin as she waved at the twins. "Name's Tonks,"

"I think you'll find that I am his best friend," Daphne told her.

"Nah, he likes me more," Tonks said matter-of-factly.

"Nymphadora! Please get off of him!" An exasperated voice called.

"Don't call me that!" Tonks said irritably as she reluctantly hopped off of Harry just as another woman arrived. The new arrival, a beautiful brown-haired woman dressed in black and blue robes, looked a second away from rolling her eyes.

"You're name is Nymphadora?" Daniel asked with a frown. "You said it was 'Tonks',"

"That's my last name and the name I'm going with instead of that monstrosity she chose," Tonks told him.

"Really?" Tonks's mother sighed. "It's such a nice name, I don't know why you must object to it so much,"

"Mrs Tonks," Harry greeted her politely.

"Hello, Harry," She replied warmly. "Please dear, call me 'Andromeda'. How are you? I see you've got your family with you. You two must be Daniel and Iris, yes?"

"Yes, Ma'am, nice to meet you," Daniel said while Iris gave her a small wave.

"Andromeda," Elizabeth said in a cool tone, staring hard at the other woman. Andromeda turned to her and matched the stare.

"Elizabeth," She said, just as coldly. She and Elizabeth didn't hate each other, they didn't even really dislike each other much. In fact, they agreed on a lot of stuff in general, including but not limited to how muggle-borns should be treated in their society. Though, with that being said, they've not really been the best of friends since their daughters started going to Hogwarts. To be honest it was mostly because of one person, that being Harry James Potter. It was not even really anything that the boy had done. It was simply the fact that both women wanted the same thing.

'Harry Potter will be my son-in-law!' Each of them thought.

"Alright you two," Harry said, placing Iris and Daniel's trunks in the overhead as the two took their seats in the compartment. "The three of us are going to a prefect's meeting, we will be back in a bit."

"What's a prefect?" Iris asked curiously as Harry extracted her cat from her enchanted trunk and placed it in her lap, he didn't bother doing anything similar for Dan who had already sent his owl ahead to Hogwarts.

"Basically, we're in charge of making sure the people in our year and the years below behave," Tonks told her.

"It's bothersome but there are benefits to it," Daphne said with a small sigh.

"Indeed," Harry agreed. "Anyway, like I said, I'll be back in a bit. You guys enjoy yourselves and relax, the train will start going soon," He told them before he and the girls stepped out of the compartment and started walking away, Harry absently flicked his hand and the compartment door closed behind them.

"This is going to be so dull," Tonks huffed as they walked down the train. "I nearly fell asleep the last time,"

"Actually do it this time," Daphne suggested. "It'll make the meeting go quicker,"

"True," Tonks said thoughtfully. "Still, I blame the two of you, I never would have become a prefect without you both. You're both good influences," She finished with a slight glare at the two, both of whom looked mortally offended at being called good influences.

"Like we forced you to do anything," Harry rolled his eyes. "Besides, there's nothing we can do now. Just nod and bear the pain for a few minutes."

(-)

"I don't like them," Iris said bluntly to her brother, crossing her arms and staring out of the window, watching the view.

"Why?" Daniel frowned curiously as he opened up a book that was titled 'The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1'. "What did they do?"

"Did you see the way that they were all jumping on Harry?!" Iris blurted out. "Isn't that weird for you? He's our brother!"

"Yeah, so?" Daniel asked, idly turning a page. "It's not like they did anything bad. Besides, they're his friends and we're his brother and sister."

"I'm his friend as well!" Iris said hotly. "I'm his best friend,"

"I am actually," Daniel stated as he looked up from his book.

"Are not!"

"Are too,"

"Are not!

"Are too!"

"No, you're not!"

"Yes, I am!"

"No, you're not!"

"Yes, I am!"

"Liar!"

"Moron!"

"You're a liar!"

"You're a moron!"

"Liar!"

"Moron!"

"Liar! Liar! Pants on fire!" She yelled triumphantly.

"Oh...you little...okay. Too far! That's too far!"

"Sorry," Iris said, rubbing her neck as she sent him an apologetic look.

"They're clearly not on fire!" Daniel said angrily.

(-)

"I thought that meeting would never end!" Tonks groaned as the three friends walked down the train, apparently, they had to take the first round of walking around the train to make sure everything was okay.

"It certainly felt that way at times," Daphne sympathised. "Honestly, I could have run that meeting far more efficiently."

"Yeah, well...if you're the head girl next year then you can," Tonks told her.

"What in Merlin's name do you mean 'if'?" Daphne asked in an offended voice. "Harry and I are the clear choices for head boy and girl,"

"Why not Harry and me?" Tonks glared at her.

"At least you two recognise that I will obviously be chosen," Harry cut in before the two could start another argument.

"Yes, well, that's a given," Daphne replied. "If it isn't you then I'll eat my shoe. You're the best student in our year,"

"Excuse me," A voice interrupted them, approaching them was a young girl already dressed in Hogwarts uniform, first-year judging by how her robes hadn't been assigned to a house yet. She had large buck teeth and unbelievably messy and curly brown hair. Standing alongside her was a chubby-looking boy around the same age, looking unbelievably nervous. "Have any of you seen a toad? Neville here has lost one,"

"A toad?" Daphne repeated, unsure if she had heard right.

"The pet list was an owl, cat or toad," The girl pointed out.

"My Great Uncle Algie brought it for me," The boy - Neville apparently - said in an embarrassed voice.

"Right, better find it quickly then," Tonks said, thinking it best we find the toad before someone decided to hex it or use it for potion ingredients.

"I'll handle it," Harry told Daphne and Tonks. "You two go ahead, check on Dan and Iris for me if you don't mind, just walk by the compartment and make sure they haven't started hexing each other, please."

"Sure thing, Harry," Tonks smiled at him before she and Daphne walked off.

"Alright," Harry said, turning to the two first years in front of him. "A toad, huh?"

(-)

"Alright, guys?" Harry asked as he entered the compartment with Daphne and Tonks following in after him.

"You took your time," Daniel asked, looking up from his book, Harry sat opposite him, next to Iris who happily leaned into him. Daphne moved to take the seat next to him when Tonks quickly sat down with a grin. She sent the Hufflepuff a glare before sitting down next to Daniel.

"Standard book of spells?" Daphne asked approvingly as she looked at the book that Dan had. "That's a good read."

"It is," Daniel agreed with a smile. "It's really interesting,"

"Yes, it's always a good read for the start of the year, but as you progress you might find yourself interested in other books," Daphne replied.

"What do you mean?" Daniel asked, staring attentively at Daphne.

"Well, the book is more about covering a few basic things you need to know like the differences between charms and transfiguration, the classification of jinxes, hexes, curses and so on," Daphne explained. "But once you understand that well enough you can start moving on to other books that you might find more interesting. There are far more spells available to you than what is simply in this book."

"I'm aware, but thank you. Actually, while you're here, I have a question about the wand-lighting charm," Daniel smiled up at her. Harry watched with amusement as the two continued discussing the spells that were taught at Hogwarts.

"Looks like Daphne made a friend," Tonks whispered to Harry before looking over him at the cat sleeping in Iris's lap. "He looks like a cutie, what's his name?" She asked Iris.

"His name is Astro," Iris said in a guarded voice, not entirely fond of the pink-haired girl who was sitting so close to her brother, but she was also quite happy to brag about her cat to anyone that's interested. "He's half-kneazel,"

"Neat, must be really smart then," Tonks said in a sad voice. "My old cat was smart,"

"Your old cat?" Iris frowned. "What happened to him? Did you sell him or something?"

"No," Tonks sighed deeply. "My mum brought me a cat when I was about eight, a year or two after some guy with a grudge ended up killing it. Never brought another pet after that,"

"That's horrible!" Iris said in a horrified voice, she had only had Astro for a few days but she knew that she was already pretty attached to him. She didn't want to imagine what would happen if somebody had hurt him. "I'm sorry,"

"It's alright, not like it's your fault," Tonks waved her off. "Still, can't help but like cats." She added before an idea popped into her head. "You know, Professor McGonagall, that's the deputy head, she has a pet cat. She leaves it on her desk sometimes in lessons, it likes anyone who pets it." She said innocently, expertly ignoring the look that Harry was sending her.
