Some might have complained that it was too on-the-nose, or like hand-holding the viewer as if to say "See? See? This is about racism!", so I'm sure some people took offense to that. Maybe. I don't pay attention to twitter vocal minorities screams.

2024-10-15 10:45:22 +0000 UTCYeah, like MHA always had these non-human looking characters but it seemed to rarely address it, so it kinda gave me the mindset that these were just accepted in the world. But, as time went on and seasons went by, we learned that just like our real world, the ones that are different enough to be classified as "heteromorphs", they are non-normals, and thus the shadow of bigotry still hangs over many of them. It very much has the underpinnings of a race war, and something we know all too much about, sadly. Great episode though!

2024-10-10 14:01:12 +0000 UTCWhat I like about Horikoshis is that he deal with horrible topics (on AOT levle of difficulty - cycle of hatred, abuse, political issues, racism..), but uses them to give us hope and show us the path. Will we take it? No. We are easily going the AoT route, but as someone living near Ukraine, it does give me hope to see stories like MHA - where all characters..Shoji, Kota, Midoriya, BAkugou, Shouto..even Enji ..are showing routes how we can be all part of the change for the better, how all of us can be the change we are deseprately wanting to see in the world. I appreciate the guy giving us hope, coz I truly at this point am just waiting who starts nuking first.

Even if this was a real world thing, being oppressed has a lot of commonalities but not every minority is prejudiced against in the same way. For example, I’m black, gay, and was born female. I understand how it feels to be mistreated in all the ways that those identities come with, but I have no way of completely understanding how a Native American or a Latin American person’s experiences affect them. Heck even a straight black man experiences racism in a different way than I do. That’s how intersectionality works. Even if Roc lock has been discriminated against for being black, he still wouldn’t understand a heteromorphs experience. Lastly, the character is yelling through a cloud of anger and mob mentality. It’s extremely realistic for people to say stuff that may not be true to a stranger they feel is oppressing them in a fight. That’s such a dumb thing for people to be mad at.

But to your questions at the end, I don’t think there’s one clean cut answer. I can only speak to my experience as a black person, but I agree more with Shoji (mostly because Spinner doesn’t really care about bettering the lives of heteromorphs he just wants to destroy everything and is being used as a pawn by the PLF guys and AFO). I don’t believe in being a model minority, because that requires us to discard our culture and identity to make the majority comfortable, but violence for violence sake, just proves to the bigots that they were right to fear and shun you. Turning the other cheek only works so long before you need to think about protecting yourself from physical harm. Even MLK changed his stance on only trying to make changes through peaceful protests. Sometimes the only way to get your point across or your voice heard is through violence, but bringing it back to MHA, they’re not defending themselves from oppressors, they’re attacking a hospital full of doctors and patients who have nothing to do with their fight. But that’s just my opinion

2024-10-09 17:24:16 +0000 UTCTo be honest this Shoji episode made me cry, Bakugo was first, and then this episode just hammered in the endurance and determination that everyone is putting forward 120% of every moment, because they know that this will be the last opportunity to save their world- a redemption of Japan as well as the world in terms of the 'hero society'. I dedicated two pages in my sketchbook to Shoji frames from this episode- amazingly done as always Bones! But yeah, I will admit the conversation concerning how we would feel if we were in there shoes; to be honest, even if we would react like the mob, the lesson to be learned here is that your anger and hatred shouldn't make others suffer -because you will be no greater than the people who hurt you. That doesn't mean your not allowed to be angry or be in pain, but it doesn't give you the right to unleash that pain onto others who are trying to protect the powerless or those who can't defend themselves or are completely unrelated to your pain. Shoji stated at the beginning of his speech, 'What does this have to do with invading the hospital?!', the first thing the heroes did in the last battle WAS EVACUATE THE CITIZENS, which is always the priority because they knew in advance. No matter their age, condition, race, heteromorph or not, they make sure time and time again that those in the line of fire (to the best of their ability) are safe and sent to doctors. All of that to say, Spinner has lost his true inner purpose behind what he was after since Season 2. He conformed to AFO and his need to be accepted by Shigaraki and the League because he didn't think his 'noble' purpose was good enough to stack up to everyone else's hatred and purpose. And the sad thing is, I have no idea what is going to happen to him- but I know FOR DAMN sure, that Shoji & Koda are going to be the new representatives for the heteromorphs. As a tribute to what Spinner truly wanted for them, I really hope the ending for the heteromorph storyline is a new and accepted culture for society (the old world of heroes has died because of the war between AFO and One for All, so it falls to our heroes and those who inspired them to work towards a new world of heroes that understands the quirks of ALL people, and to prevent the tragedy that this world created in order to make Shigaraki) Horikoshi's true underlying lesson for all who watch it: Villains are not born, they are made... by the world that does not accept them and does not try or refuses to understand them. (Spinner, Toga, Gentle, Overhaul, Gigantomachia, Dabi, and especially Shigaraki).

S4 is cool but chilling and S5 got me half snorring, but yes, S6 and S7 are my favorites of the show. 6-7 than the 3rd one. I'm glad I re-watched from where I stopped (End S5) otherwise I would have missed those 2 insanes seasons
