So they're woven, and animation tries to enhance it by things I've stated. It's also quite funny that you flip a defense card of "well, I wrote how spectacular the animation is before" yet you say "you are writing essays in defense of Toei constantly" - when I only did it once, under this episode, ever - by pointing out that Toei is not the one responsible translating the line (which "leads to" thinking Toei is putting down Sanji on purpose). So you're blaming me of not knowing everything you ever wrote (plus I don't even get how that is relevant; buddy I said I was talking about the masses, and not you; the part I disagreed with you specifically, was of you disentangling animation away from the lore with which it's portrayed), by painting yourself like you do know stuff I wrote?? - and you don't, as this never happened besides this episode, complete invention of hilarious proportions: "incessantly rushing to the defense of one of the oldest and most established animation studios in the world. That isn’t your role, you’re not their lawyer" just lmao,- and in fact I blame Toei for a lot of stuff - Like Kanjuro stalling episodes, just recently. 2024-08-12 20:40:57 +0000 UTCNot only am I well aware of all of the aspects of animation, as I have had a deep and profound love for it in all its forms since long before eastern animation ever came to the west in a mainstream capacity, and as I grew up around oldschool Disney cartoonists, animators, and comic heads, but I also have explicitly stated in the comment section before how this specific arc is so glorious that even though people often reference the fights when they talk about Wano’s animation, it is in fact not just that, but every bit and bobble from every scene, a smorgasbord of legendary guest animators and stylization. Hell I literally said in that exact comment how this will leave the landscape forever changed. I am someone who has and will watch things completely out of their demographic and taste simply for the glorious art I hear about from others. I am not “pitting” anything “against each other,” simply stating that Oda’s writing is a particular point of prominence (as usual) for me personally, probably owing to the fact that I have history with writing and have always been a lover of great stories. Saying that the lore drops do it more for me personally does not take away from the animators, does not detract from their work, Is not a slight or reductive to the show at large, none of that shit. In fact, just the opposite. Two things can be true at the same time my guy. More importantly, you really need to chill the fuck out man. I keep seeing you in the comments writing essays about how everyone is wrong about everything but you, incessantly rushing to the defense of one of the oldest and most established animation studios in the world. Don't forget his childhood friend from Frost Moon village in the East Blue where he trained introduced herself as is Shimotsuki Kuina. It's so interesting to know things related to Wano were introduced literally within the first 2 episodes of the show, but you don't know the significance of it until 1000+ episodes later.

One Piece fandom is the worst fandom with Attack on Titan fandom in attacking their anime. With share mass-misinformation and propaganda, that comes out of nowhere - like in this very episode. It's pathetic that people assign translation on Toei when Crunchyroll does that - it doesn't even make any sense. To unhinged hounding of the staff, from just share vitriol to plain death threats. Like when Ishitani had to defend one of her best friends, another Toei director, who after her work on 1075 was bombarded with toxicity. She was downright suicidal over share negativity on twitter (wrote very alarming tweets). It's bad. I think people don't even get that some staff go and look up at reactions on their work too - a lot of animators do this, so they see stuff like this. For a time I thought maybe it's just some unhinged bunch on twitter or whatever, but it's spreading clearly, and now it's commonplace, even on here with misinfo. So bunch of patreons and youtube channels that watch OP, and it's same "F you Toei" constantly.

I'll just vent a bit at the general feelings most share here, and I don't. I feel like laymen (as opposed to animation buff, let's say) cannot at all appreciate animation. What you just wrote out is "core of shonen" and "choreography" like that's the takeaway, man.. - and while these things are immaculate, sure, animation doesn't stop there - character acting animation, composition, transitions are all leagues above anything else (obviously there are bad episodes, too). They take Kaido, and BREATHE so much life into him, from curdling screams to all kinds of stoic expressions that tell a lot - if you would go up and looked some fan edits, you'd see how many "micro expressions" Kaido can make, and how alive that makes him. Or they take a landscape like rooftop, and make it so atmospheric, with Maria's music performance scene, the moon shots, the colors and highlights, or even something as super simple yet impactful as wind billowing tufts of Kaido's mane. They take the epic lore part of one piece, and like with 1015, give the panorama to all these places, moments, prophecies and so forth, in a most immaculate back to back transitions. That's tip of the iceberg. But despite this, what people say about Wano - "yes the animation is so hype, and all, but it's just amazing hype fights". No. The lore and mythos you talked about are quite literally enhanced in animation, when it's accompanied visually with such attention. Sure, not every piece of lore drop ever, but vast majority. So your statements make no sense - as you either have lore in isolation (information through words), or same lore with amazing visuals (albeit this episode lore thing didn't have much going on visually - but it doesn't undermine it either, while in most episodes it's enhanced). So these remarks where you have to extract world building and pit it against animation are just... what, why? So pointless, when animation enhances said lore through immaculate character acting animation, effects animation, atmosphere and transitions; remarks that boil animation down to hype is also just oof.. Toei is the most underappreciated, and over-attacked studio right now (not saying you're attacking them, haven't ever seen you smack talking them). And this comes from a person whose favorite story is One Piece because of the writing foremost - and each chapter of the manga is such a highlight in my life - but I don't understand this fandom's need to pit the adaptation against the source and undermine the anime for all the things that it does, that Oda can't do. We can all praise Oda, but to do unnecessary jabs at animation is weird. When people undermine the amazing work they do, it's always somewhat upsetting while understandable, as they can't appreciate 90% of it with what is essentially "tone-deafness" just for animation, and other stuff like assigning blame to things Toei doesn't even do.

2024-08-12 06:05:23 +0000 UTCWhile I am fully aware that the animation and choreography of Wano is a transformative experience which has and will leave the landscape of animation at large forever changed, and I can recognize that moments like these are incredibly hype and what many would consider to be at the core of shonen in general, I have to admit that once again the lore is really what does it for me. Heat’s theorycrafting and mental picture of Oda’s world is so fleshed out and comprehensive, and grows more so with every piece of the puzzle that gets added, that out of all the truly breathtaking and majestic works of art to come, the things I really can’t wait for are the big narrative strokes and lore bombs. We’re in for something truly special. As are they, of course

2024-08-11 03:51:16 +0000 UTCThe issue with modern anime, since Crunchyroll came in, is that these simulcast uploads of "episodes concurrently with what's airing in Japan on TV right now!" lead to poor, rushed subtitling. This goes beyond One Piece, and effects all anime. Translators are very poorly paid too, and they have to work in a rush, and when job pays little, I doubt they get a lot of quality translators to begin with. But because of the rush they're under, accuracy is often times lost, as well as lines are sometimes simplified for speed, nuance is omitted, poetic things are omitted, even simple things like detail (like magic power system rules, for example, World Trigger comes to mind) are cut down in explanation in subtitle version versus actual Japanese. It sucks. Blame CR.

Yes, Sanji. So 1) he has over 1h of incredible consistent animation, the most out of any character, even beating Luffy. 2) Sanji stans are completely unhinged, to the point where these sorts of statements reach loonies, and they don't just say this "Toei hates Sanji" to themselves or friends, they literally go and harass animators, directors and the Toei staff involved on twitter. To the point where recently even Ishitani (director of 1015) had to went on twitter that this is completely deranged nonsense from Sanji fans. Relax. Staff loves Sanji, you just see what you want to see, and delude yourselves. I respect you Nuka, you're smart, don't propagate this nonsense.
