He just doesn’t feel worthy. He has the lowest self-esteem on the crew. Everybody had a father figure expect him. He had to watch his mother die and his father chose the sea instead of him. ‘Course he’s gonna end up puffing himself up with lies to cope with the sadness and rejection of the villagers, his father, etc. even water 7, he felt unworthy to keep goin with the team. He actually assumed he brought no value. He didn’t know how much they truly love and count on him. Enies lobby would have failed without him. At the heart of it, he’s a man who has yet to believe in himself, truly love himself. Not preserve his life, LOVE HIMSELF and believe his limits are only what he sets. He’s a natural born leader, great artist, funny, good communicator, and super accurate sniper. Gifted. He never miss. Once he learns to love himself and believe in himself, all that coward shit will come to an end. He’s not scared of getting hurt (not solely), he’s afraid his effort would be meaningless. It’s frustrating to watch but maybe that’s because it forces you to look at a side of yourself, or areas of your life you neglect. I know I reflect on my potential and my neglect of it from frustration at his choices. He need to believe in himself. The only difference between a promise and a lie is the position of your heart. Your an honest man if you make it real💯

He truly is the most realistic Straw Hat sometimes as it takes him longer than his crew mates to get over the mental barriers of the shit they face all the time and prove themselves in the heat of battle. Yeah for some it might get annoying sometimes, but for me, Usopp's my fav character so I wouldn't have it any other way🤷🏾♂ Either with tears in his eyes or snot dripping down his nose, Usopp finds a way to pitch in AND survive lol💀
