Usopp is so stupid for this cause the Merry being unable to sail is different from him being weak the Merry was already technically weak cause of its small stature and lack of equipment but we never abandoned her for it.

There's nothing to really think about from that perspective because it's spiritual. As for letting it die, there's real life examples you can look at, especially from medieval and viking times, etc. (you sink it in many different ways depending on the culture, usually. It's like with dead people. Some cremate, some place it in a tomb or barry it. Some put it on a boat and let the body drift into the sea, etc.).
