DEM Chapter 40: No Way! You’re Actually Involved with the Demonic Path!
Added 2025-07-19 11:14:13 +0000 UTCWhat? Chu Lanxi is colluding with the demonic path?!
Su Yuan was shocked!
Could he have become a security guard too?
But he quickly dismissed the idea.
Leaving aside why a rich guy like Chu Lanxi would stoop to being a security guard like him, even if he did, it wouldn’t bring Su Yuan any opportunities, right?
So, the system’s talk of “colluding with demonic forces” must refer to other industries it deemed part of the demonic camp.
Like... a bar? An internet café? Or maybe a band?
Basically, places tied to leisure and enjoyment.
Based on Su Yuan’s deep understanding of the system, this backward, ancient-minded system saw such entertainment venues as mortal enemies.
But even if it was one of those places, what kind of opportunity could it offer him?
Su Yuan was stumped. He turned his gaze to the enigmatic, handsome guy beside him.
Activating Demonic Technique · Fate Finger discreetly.
Instead of racking his brain guessing, he’d peek at Chu Lanxi’s daily fate for some useful clues.
The next moment, pink mist swirled above Chu Lanxi’s head, forming a few large characters.
Su Yuan stared, almost thinking he’d misread.
[Stealing Fragrance and Jade (Unfulfilled)]
This was Chu Lanxi’s fate for the day.
Holy crap!
There was something seriously off about Chu Lanxi’s fate—nine parts out of ten off!
Su Yuan’s gaze sharpened, sizing him up from head to toe.
Hmm, handsome features, effeminate charm, fair and soft skin, decent build—a prime candidate for a pretty boy.
Feeling the stare from the neighboring desk, Chu Lanxi, who’d been propping his chin and gazing out the window, shifted uncomfortably, sitting up straighter.
He coughed lightly, meeting Su Yuan’s scrutinizing look with a cold retort, “Son, why’re you staring at your old man? Not a cent for borrowing money!”
Su Yuan narrowed his eyes, ready to ask if Chu Lanxi had someone on the side.
But as the words reached his lips, he had a sudden thought and changed tack, “Lanxi, I haven’t seen you eating my roasted goose these past couple of days. I’m making a fresh one tonight in the cafeteria. Want a hot serving?”
Chu Lanxi’s eyes lit up, but he quickly sneered, “Hmph! Took you two whole days to remember me?”
“Brother Yuan, you’ve hit the big time! Don’t recognize your old dad anymore, huh?”
His tone dripped with mock resentment.
“Cut the crap! You eating or not?”
“Eating.”
An hour after school, Su Yuan sliced up a freshly roasted dragonscale goose, sharing dinner with Chu Lanxi and Chen Nuoyi.
“Lanxi, sorry for making you wait for the goose. How’s my cooking?” Su Yuan asked with a grin.
“It’s the bomb,” Chu Lanxi gave a thumbs-up.
But then, as if chilled, he tightened his clothes, a wary look crossing his face, “Son, why haven’t I ever seen you this attentive before? Being so nice all of a sudden feels kinda creepy.”
Su Yuan kept his expression neutral, still smiling, “What’re you thinking? You’ve treated me to meals plenty of times. What’s wrong with me returning the favor?”
“Oh, by the way, don’t you have stuff to do every night? Got plans tonight?”
Chu Lanxi slapped his forehead, “You didn’t mention it, I almost forgot. It’s almost eight. I do have something to take care of.”
With that, he said goodbye to the two and hurried out of the cafeteria.
Once he was gone, Su Yuan’s smile vanished. He whispered to the girl beside him, “Class Leader, I’ve got a hunch Old Chu’s been messing with some shady stuff lately. I’m gonna tail him and see what’s up.”
Chen Nuoyi’s eyes flashed with surprise, but she quickly said, “I’ll come with you. If we run into bad guys, we can watch each other’s backs.”
Su Yuan didn’t refuse. That’s why he’d told Chen Nuoyi in the first place.
Sure, as high schoolers, they’d be no match for even a random Foundation Establishment expert, but Chen Nuoyi had her status as the Chen family’s young miss.
Su Yuan didn’t believe the Chen family hadn’t secretly assigned someone to protect her.
If they ran into real danger, the Chen family’s people would step in, and they’d escape easily, right?
Of course, the chance of danger was slim to none.
Given the system’s track record, it was basically the UC Shock Department.
If he hadn’t just dealt with that white-haired loli incident at noon, he wouldn’t have been on guard at all.
Worried about losing Chu Lanxi, they informed the kitchen staff and set off, spotting him leisurely heading out the school gate.
Once outside, Chu Lanxi pulled out a flashy, custom flying sword and took to the air.
“Damn rich kid,” Su Yuan muttered enviously, staring at the sleek sword. He and Chen Nuoyi quickly scanned a shared flying sword and chased after him.
In terms of performance, the shared sword was no match for Chu Lanxi’s custom one, but it was rush hour, with traffic clogging both sky and ground, letting them trail him at a leisurely pace.
They followed Chu Lanxi for over ten kilometers, arriving at Taihua City’s bustling commercial street.
Night had fully fallen, and spirit-powered neon lights lit the street like daylight, with crowds weaving through, vibrant and lively.
As a delivery expert who’d crisscrossed the city, Su Yuan wasn’t dazzled by the bustling street, keeping his eyes locked on Chu Lanxi weaving through the crowd.
After several twists and turns, he and Chen Nuoyi followed him into a secluded alley.
They peeked around the alley’s entrance for a while, watching Chu Lanxi disappear into its depths, then exchanged a glance.
Su Yuan was puzzled, “There’s an alley like this on the commercial street? I’ve never come here delivering.”
Chen Nuoyi said worriedly, “Should we go in? This alley doesn’t feel like a good place. Maybe Chu’s being coerced into going there.”
Su Yuan hesitated.
Damn it, life and school had been so chill. Why were dangerous things suddenly piling up in one day?
Chu Lanxi, you didn’t actually get mixed up with the real demonic path, did you?!
As Su Yuan wavered, a figure suddenly approached the alley at a brisk pace.
Su Yuan and Chen Nuoyi quickly pretended to be passersby, stepping back to observe the newcomer.
It was a glamorous urban woman, wearing a mask and sunglasses at night, exuding an imposing aura.
She reached the alley’s entrance, sneakily looked around to ensure no one noticed, then darted in, vanishing in a blink.
Su Yuan and Chen Nuoyi: "..."
After a long silence, Chen Nuoyi’s face flushed as she said, “Su Yuan, I think I’ve seen this plot in a drama.”
“Damn you, Lanxi!” Su Yuan gritted his teeth.
A shady alley, a fate of “stealing fragrance and jade,” sneaky customers... the elements were too perfect.
So, you’re actually involved with the demonic path, huh?!
Is this demonic sect called the Joyous Union Sect or what?!
System, why the hell do you think this place is my opportunity?
