Y'all, I knew we would see Matoba eventually in this season, but I was NOT expecting to see him THIS soon! Natsume is forced to engage with the head of the Matoba Clan, but what will this mission with him end up doing for Natsume's feelings around Matoba and his clan of exorcists? This series just gets better and better, doesn't it?!

Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! I love Natsume’s conviction and that we got more of Matoba, here, too! The exorcists are indeed a bit hypocritical! And yeah, there’s so much to say about how they position themselves as “above it” in terms of what they advocate for and against. I really need to get back into the dub so I can hear Matoba! I keep telling myself that once this season ends, I’m going to want to watch Natsume again, so the dub will be there for that! And glad Beniko made a reappearance! This season is so good so far! Thank you again!

Another really fun episode where Natsume’s certainty in his own values gets to shine and Madara gets to grump about everyone. 😆 Agree with all that came up in discussion. We see so much of the exorcists’ hypocrisy – in one breath talking about how bad it is someone attempted to create a yokai by feeding them less powerful ones, and in the next they are essentially doing the same. But, of course, they consider themselves ultimate arbiters and simultaneously above judgement. And I think the construction of the episode lends itself nicely to both interpretations: that Natsume met Matoba or that he met a yokai in disguise. Dub!Matoba is a lot of fun as well, btw! Was really glad to see Beniko again! 🥰 Looking forward to next week! 💙
