Well, I thought maybe we'd get our two love birds making up this episode...NOPE. NOT AT ALL. Instead, Zhou Zishu returns to Angst City, as he laments that he and Wen KeXing must not be "meant to be" and I want to shake him and shake off the wannabe rebound Han Jing!
And Wen KeXing's response to heartbreak is to become TERRIFYING as we find out that yes, he is the Ghost Chief, and YES, he is INSANE. Well. Ahem.
At least Gu Xiang and Chengling have some great moments this week.

Hahaha just wait until I have to wait Two and a half FULL WEEKS between a few episodes coming up…*cries* But yeah, luckily I can’t binge with my channel schedule because I want to savor this series! But yes, I may have to rewatch some episodes while I’m on my trip to cope! And yeah, me wanting them to reconnect only for it to be a breakup episode! T_T The angst! And yeah, Han Ying needs to stay away! It’s definitely interesting to know how they deal with sadness differently on an individual basis. There are a LOT of plot points but I do like that you can kind of keep up fine with the breaks of ZZS x WKX angst gathered between hahaha! And Gao Chong’s “shotgun wedding” (though not REALLY because they haven’t been “togehter) is such a redneck move! Or Disney movie move? Both? Gu Xiang is a real one, though - and I love how Chengling shows his maturity in that scene, even if it is really innocent! Speaking of innocent: CAO WEINING 100% but I love how much he is head over heels for Gu Xiang! :3 WKX is the definition of The Office meme where Michael Scott says, “I’m going to do it *harder*” just to spite. But SERIOUSLY, Gong Jun is AMAZING in this episode - I really didn’t know after seeing him as such a flirty cherub if he could pull off the Ghost Chief again…and…YUP. And yeahhh, Suwabe has been proven to be perfect for WKX - I hope that someone gets some clips of him voicing this last scene onto the internet! Thank you for the comment and kind words! It’s so sad to see the way they’ve been developing around each other when they hit this wall. ANGST. Maybe *twiddles fingers* they’ll find ways to help each other that aren’t as angsty or hurtful to each other? *stares at rest of series ahead* It was SUCH a powerful scene seeing WKX finally reveal himself to us as the Ghost Chief! But yes, he’s so hot, but it’s heartbreaking to see him back to his sad, angry self without ZZS. But Gong Jun pulls off how menacing he can be! You may have to lead me back to this scene in the Japanese dub if you find it…I NEED to hear Suwabe doing this! XD AH, thank you for saying the Third Brother’s name again - I forget him constantly. And GHOUL - just…GHOUL. Ahh, interesting - thank you for noting that! That makes more sense that he’s the “corpse eating ghost” (gross) - I think her calling ZZS “Sick ghoul” in this sub made it confusing for me, haha! Glad to have that cleared up! Oohhh, that’s also interesting about the Changing Ghost! I will have to talk about that in a future intro as well! That’s really neat! Thank you for the comment, kind words, and all the info! 2025-04-04 15:45:58 +0000 UTCBreakup time, pain time, hahaha For two people who are still circling each other, WKX and ZZS sure know how to hit the other where it hurts (soulmate behavior, am right?) WKX, who is becoming more human around ZZS, now gets seen as crazy in ZZS’s eyes. Meanwhile, ZZS, who’s been slowly learning to hate himself less when he’s with WKX, gets a harsh reminder from WKX about exactly why he hates himself, and why he’s punishing himself in the first place. They both make each other better, but at the same time, they pull each other right back into their worst habits. Truly chef kiss levels of angst. I replayed the scene at the end soooo many times, you don’t even know. On my first watch, I was already sure he was the Ghost Chief and was just holding my breath, waiting for him to go all out. And it did not disappoint! But I was conflicted. Like it’s lowkey heartbreaking and kinda terrifying to watch him like this, but also... he looks reallyyyyy hot lol. The body language, the eyes, the laugh, everything is just perfection. I did find some clips of the Japanese dub and shared them on Discord. Of course I immediately went looking for this scene, but sadly, the person who uploaded the clips didn’t include it😭 Lu Taichong is the third brother, the one who died and left his disciples and the Glazed Armor to Ao Laizi. He barely gets mentioned, so it’s totally fair if you don’t remember him. I didn’t on my first watch either. As for the Ghost who licked his lips when he saw the White Changing Ghost’s corpse, that’s Ghoul. They called him by that name back in episode 7. Remember when Gu Xiang freaked Cao Wei Ning out by talking about a Ghoul who eats people? Yeah, the name she mentioned is his name. It would’ve been clearer if they had just translated it literally: Shí Shī Guǐ (食 shí - to eat/feed on, 屍 shī - corpse/body remains, 鬼 guǐ - ghost), so basically: Corpse-Eating Ghost. I found something interesting about Changing Ghost (Impermanence Ghost). You know by now that the Ghost Valley "Ghosts" aren’t actually ghosts, but this one is inspired by two deities in Chinese folk religion: Heibai Wuchang (or Hak Bak Mo Seong) - the Black and White Impermanence. They’re two deities who guide souls to the underworld. Sometimes, they get merged into one figure called Wuchang Gui - the Impermanence Ghost. Depending on who he meets, he can either be a lucky spirit who rewards good deeds or a terrifying one who punishes evil. The show clearly took inspiration from this, but did a little remix, they didn’t go with just one Impermanence Ghost or the usual Black and White duo. Instead, they made the Black and White figures his subordinates.

2025-03-31 23:34:41 +0000 UTCWaiting forty-eight hours definitely deserves some praise! 😆 They really did a good job with making you want to binge this show. Also the re-watchability of the show is really high because you note things the second/third/nth time around; an example being the bit about Gu Xiang that Pancake mentioned and how something seemingly throwaway in Episode 3 comes around again with Cao Weining buying Gu Xiang a meal 🥰 Well you did say you wanted Zhou Zishu and Wen Ke Xing to reconnect this episode, just I very much doubt you wanted the pain and angst of Wen Ke Xing trying to dig graves for the Four Sages of Anji while it happens and the break-up becomes all the more painful 😭 The torture comes in seeing the two as broken men rather than them simply having parted ways like last episode 💔 The laugh I let out of me when you were screaming for Han Ying to not come in and try to get sloppy seconds 🤣 True soulmates both get completely trollied in response to breaking up 😂 Though while Zhou Zishu drinks alone and from plain jugs of wine, Wen Ke Xing surrounds himself in finery and pays for company. Romania: This is Sparta! I momentarily imagined them all as Spartan warriors with that comment. But yes the idea of the strong ruling the weak in the Martial Arts world is a very Spartan ideology. So many plot points all happening at the same time that it does make it hard to keep track. But the pain of Zhou Zishu and Wen Ke Xing's break-up is still too severe, and definitely leaves you wanting them to just make up. Gao Chong's plan to marry Zhang Chengling off to his daughter is one of the first things I thought of back when you first thought of Gao Chong as a Redneck 😂 I adore Gu Xiang just skipping out to allow Zhang Chengling and Gao Xiaolian time alone 🥰 But I do love the conversation we get between the two of them. It shows Zhang Chengling's maturity, while at the same time showing his lack of experience by being so direct towards Gao Xiaolian. This episode feels like Wen Ke Xing took Zhou Zishu calling him crazy and wanted to prove that what Zhou Zishu had seen so far was nothing yet 😅 Shen Shen telling someone else to "calm down" says a lot for how Gao Chong is reacting to Gao Xiaolian's words 😆 Cao Weining is a truly adorable Labrador of a man. But damn is he smitten! 😍 Gong Jun this episode really showed off just how menacing and fierce he can be. Truly terrifying in comparison to how we've previously seen Wen Ke Xing behave. Netflix subtitles translate the white and black ghost names differently. Rather than White Changing Ghost or Black Changing Ghost they are called White/Black Grim Reaper. But yes the way Wen Ke Xing killed him and the power in his voice that moment really shows why Suwabe makes such a good choice for the Japanese dub. I tried searching online for any clips of that moment in the Japanese dub but sadly couldn't find any. Guess it just means I should try to get the DVDs for it 😆
