Hey everyone! Thanks so much for funding this month! I'm gonna bump up all this week's posts by a day so everything updates a little earlier, but next week we'll be back on the usual schedule :)
This is just a quick rundown of how I made my default favorite brush for inking and how I use it. It also explains a good method of adding color to lineart that has opacity variation like mine. Sorry it's very wordy; I try to be as concise as possible while still explaining as much as possible in case someone is very new to this whole process, but I'm still learning :)
This is a really super basic brush, and has turned out to be what works best for me personally, but may not be best for you. I'd strongly encourage you to experiment with brush settings and downloaded brushes to find something that compliments how you naturally work. For example, I tend to work with quick, clean strokes and controlled pressure, but if you are more light/heavy handed, or prefer to draw with many small strokes, etc, this brush may not work well for you. You should also experiment with your tablet settings; for example, if you feel like you have to press very hard or very light to get what you want, you can modify that under most tablet settings by turning pressure sensitivity up and down.
Required materials: a pressure-sensitive drawing tablet (essential for linework with size and opacity variation), Photoshop (this tut is for CS5 but should work for 6 and possibly earlier versions; there may not be as many options or things may be worded differently in earlier versions)
Edit: If you're having trouble reading, right click on the image and hit "View Image" and it should come up at a larger size :)
