I wanted to mention the cockatrice one because it’s honestly hilarious. When Laios ate the basilisk, he said he wanted to compare its taste with the cockatrice’s… and when he finally did, he realized it didn’t taste anything like his book said — apparently, it was supposed to taste like stone or a statue. That’s when he finds out the monster cookbook —the one his mom gave him, that he read thousands of times, and never even let Falin borrow— was actually fake. You can even see at the start of the anime how worn-out it is from how much he treasured it. In the end, Marcille and the others comfort him after seeing his reaction. Poor Laios, his heart was shattered. 💔
