Some explanation without spoilers: 1) Subaru’s first life he hardly had the scent on him, Garf couldnt smell it or he smelled it but it was a tiny amount which meant that even if Subaru was in the cult he was just some weak member anyway. After every death that scent increases significantly so his scent got much more noticeable and stronger. That is why garf was ok with Subaru doing the trials the first time but not the other times after that. Nobody likes the cultists, no exceptions here. Garf probably thought Subaru was up to something in every other life after the first one because the scent grew immensely after every death Subaru had. 2) The moment Subaru reached out to Emilia, his body began to shake and he knew that what his body was feeling was fear. Absolute terrified fear toward Emilia. He mentally doesn’t believe it is Emilia even after seeing her with his own eyes but his body fears her entirely(which is why he says something like “come on…there’s no way..right?” 3) This is probably gonna be the longest of all the explanations. Sin Archbishops and Apostles are entirely different things. Sin Archbishops just have the witch factor/“authority” of a witch, they have 0 connection to any of the witches with the same sin as them. Betelgeuse mentions his authority briefly but it isnt really explained. I believe somewhere in a future episode something happens that should make your brains click on what a witch factor is and how someone gets it/obtains it so I’ll save that explanation for later. APOSTLES on the other hand doe, they do not have a witch factor. Apostles have some sort of direct connection to a witch(Subaru drank tea with Echidna’s hair in it, lol yes the “bodily fluids” is just a joke she likes to pull). Apostles either have a direct connection to a witch and/or are approved by said witch.

We know Emilia as a character but still have doubts about her and think she could be the witch of envy, which is why everyone discriminates her in the world.

2024-03-05 19:48:13 +0000 UTCOne thing that should be taken into account is that every time Subaru comes back through Return by Death, "the witch's scent" lingers on him. That should help explain some things with Garfiel.

2024-03-05 18:11:44 +0000 UTCA reason some of the animation and character models are off is cause large portions of the 2nd season were animated during the start of Covid. They still did a good job overall when the animation was needed, but this episode is probably the worst of it.
