He is slowly wiping out Viking traditions such as plundering, raping and dueling. While he has spread destruction in his path, he has also saved others from the plight of the Vikings. Instead of allowing them to roam as pirates and doing whatever the fuck they want, he disciplined them. Controlled them. And directed their strength towards unifying the lands. Im not saying hes correct. Alls im saying Canute dislikes war and fighting as much as Thorfinn. Hes simply going about it with the power he was given. Peace through strength. The path to hell is paved with good intentions unfortunately.

It is a constant throughout history for any person in a position of power to amass wealth, land, or prestige simply for their own self-congratulations. It is hard not to empathize with Einar and Thorfinn throughout the episode. TGIF React Pack!!!
