If he really was a former Hashira, he wouldn't be there. Samurai isn't another word for Hashira. Samurai is samurai. Hashira is Hashira, or Pillar in English. He said he was a former SHINOBI, aka ninja.

Its called that in the manga. But some younger ppl watch Demon Slayer, (FUCK THEM KIDS) so they had to censor the arcs name smh.😂

What I don’t know is if that guys is an ancestor or uncle or something to tanjiro. I’m just going based on evidence that was shown in this episode and from season 1 episode 8

Your argument only makes sense if they showed the original dude who created sunbreathing and if that was the case then obviously you got the information from somewhere else and thats a spoiler. I personally don't think its his dad because Tanjiro would have noticed his dad being gone going off on missions which has never been shown. Also Tanjiros dad was super sickly and died young due to his illness so thats why I personally don't think it was him

And the demon slayers and demons have been around for centuries, that would mean tanjiros dad would be 100s of years old which wasn’t the case. So logically that can’t be his dad

And Hashira’s can’t order around another Hashira’s tsukugo. If you remember in the Mugen train movie Rengoku offers tanjiro to be his tsukugo when they first meet and looking back at it now it’s probably because Rengoku knew his little brother Senjuro would never be able to be his tsukugo
