2026-01-19 02:30:37 +0000 UTCWhat Michael Schur does so well is that he takes topics that are generally viewed with negativity and imagines a world with decent people running them. If you look at his shows, they cover espionage, politics, police work, and literal hell and they are all delightful. This has been fun so far. As others have said, this show takes a bit before it gets great. I have re-watched the later seasons but skip the beginning because I remembered it being just ok. However, seeing it now, it’s still a good introduction (although it does get a lot better.)

2026-01-18 21:16:43 +0000 UTCHaha I'm a city planner like Mark so I feel his loss of enthusiasm for the system sometimes 😂 I work with a lot of Leslie's though that keep me going when I work on parks haha

2026-01-18 17:19:08 +0000 UTCbefore these small moments get lost in the shuffle as the show ramps up, I kinda wanna address the beige elephant in the room — Mark he’s everyone’s least favorite Parks character, consistently, across the board, every time, and I think it’s pretty unfair. I actually like him he serves the same purpose as Jim from the Office — a boring everyman that contrasts with the absurdity of his coworkers. he’s seen as “dull and forgettable”, when I think that’s kind of the point. having characters to anchor us to reality are important imo, or else we’re just watching Three Stooges. Leslie hitting the metal table with the gavel would be notably not funny if Mark didn’t have his meek reaction. he does honestly fit the tone that these earlier seasons go for too also worth mentioning that in the first episode, he’s the only one besides Ann and Leslie who doesn’t really do anything problematic, and in this episode he immediately protects April from a sex offender. just figured i’d sing his praises while I still can lol to me his negative reception compared to the other characters kinda functions as a larger metaphor that people can get a pass for outlandish behavior if they’re charismatic and funny enough (the nature of comedy shows, but still. people hate Mark and I don’t get it 😂)
