VOX MACHINA SEASON 2 TABLE TO SCREEN (PART 1)

Comments

Vex's death was especially crazy because typically in D&D when you fall to zero you roll death saves. Three successes you come back at 1 hp, 3 failures you die. Some damage types however, will instantly kill you if you are brought to zero. Necrotic damage sometimes will do this. In addition some noteworthy spells like Disintegrate or Power Word: Kill will instantly slay you.

The two folks who were sitting at the table were the players for Kashaw and Zara. Will Friedle voiced Kash and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn voices Zara. Both of them came in and out of story and Matt often brings in guest stars to play a few sessions with regular crew.

If you want to know how he comes up with the story stuff, then I guess he just has an active imagination. However, if you want to know how he comes up the names, then Sam actually revealed it in an interview. He chooses a body part and changes one letter. 🤣

That was Zara and Kash. If you've seen Boy Meets World, he was Eric Matthews. He also voiced Terry McGuiness in Batman Beyond.

I hope you get to play DnD one day, it is super fun! And yes, it is absolutely an excuse to flirt with your friends if they are receptive to it lmao! I will say tho, if a campaign feels too long a commitment, it is very possible to just go for a one-shot first to give the game a try. Campaigns can stretch for months, even years, and sometimes they fizzle out. A one-shot on the other hand is beginning, middle and end, all in one or two sessions. It is too short for meaningful character growth, but it's a good way to test the waters aha! I would offer to run a game if not for the fact that I have only DMed in French thus far and I do not have the confidence to do it in English... Finally, while I think you have enough empathy to not fall for what is called the "Mercer effect", I feel like I should still mention it so people in this community who might read this and consider DnD keep it in mind. The Mercer effect is essentially the expectation some people have going into DnD that their DM will be "like Matt". It's an unrealistic expectation, not only do DMing styles vary, but Matt is both a professional DM and a professional voice actor. Most DMs usually only play as a hobby. Not to mention, Critical Role campaigns are curated for entertainment, which would not be the case for a home game. The Mercer effect is rarer than some make it out to be, but it doesn't hurt to mention it still.

Vex also totally stole that broom from a guest play character in the actual campaign and it was hilarious 😂 they changed it for the show though obviously
