One thing I always loved about OG Gundam is the balance it strikes in being an idealistic story about pragmatic people. It still has it's anti-war message, but it's not so ham-fisted that it has to make characters act like idiots, and that's especially apparent in the early episodes. I think later franchise entries kind of lost this balance.

2021-08-13 16:37:00 +0000 UTCI adore that scene with the vote to attack in episode 3. It is really efficient character work. Seeing Bright call for a vote demonstrates both his strengths and his weaknesses. He is a smart dude and is attentive to the crew but isn't confident enough in his own judgement to feel secure in just making such an important call just yet. Also, lots of great body language there especially for Amuro who hesitates a long time before ultimately just going with the majority. Also, the Gundam hammer is so goofy. It is peak "we must sell toys" Gundam. The atmospheric reentry episode(s) is a staple of Gundam. It is such a fun and somewhat horrifying dynamic. Burning up on reentry would have to be near the bottom of my list of ways I would want to die if I was an enemy mook.
