2023-06-27 23:47:47 +0000 UTCThe contrasts in these episodes are really heavy. Honestly you don't even realise them after the first watch. This episode began with Aang overly stressed and having a horrible few days while Zuko was in a paradise of sorts. Yet by the end Aang went to sleep in bliss while Zuko realised he was miserable as the person who he became. In a past episode when Zuko visits Iroh in jail and it shows the two of the talking with the bars of the cell between them Zuko's character is acctually in the dark the whole time while Iroh is in the light. Almost as if showing that Zuko is the one truly caged and in prison while Iroh is the free one. The contrasts and subtle nods in this show are honestly so amazing. Obviously not as a reation but I implore you to rewatch the show in your own time once you know the full story. You will see sooo much more. There will be hints even back in the first season of things that don't even get revealed till the third.

2023-06-27 19:02:47 +0000 UTCI get why you guys don’t like the scenes with Zuko, Mai, etc. because in comparison to what else they have done that was horrible, it feels like no good can compare to that. But I also feel like that shows just how human they are. It makes the characters feel actually real, instead of just being pinned into stereotypes and boxes, as a LOT of shows and movies always do with characters. I think that’s why I like this show so much, because it shows the other side of character, and by doing so, it makes the characters feel less like stereotypes and more like actual people. It makes them real. And bringing any reality to fiction where things are often derived and oversimplified, I can appreciate. It makes me feel so much more connected to the story and the world, because you could choose the easy way and write a character down and stick with it, but to actually do something with a character to the point where you can connect with them emotionally and can actually see them as not just a character, but they feel like a real person. That’s HARD to do in fiction, it takes a LOT of work, and humility in a way, in order to connect with your characters like that as a creator, and then connect them to your audience. That’s why I love this show, because the characters and so complex and well thought out and evolve so much throughout the course of the show, that they feel like real people. And I can admire any scene and any show that has creators that manages to do that level of hard work for the justice of imagination and what it means to create in the first place. That’s why I honestly admire every scene in the show that makes me feel happiness/joy/sadness/love for the “villains” who people made in order to show the characters as human beings.
