lethargic_god

The lads are chatty tonight lol! Y'all got me thinking about all the dumb stuff I did as a teenager too it's a wonder I made it to my thirties

Kemi Stanton

Great episode to watch along with you guys. Thank you

I thought the Bill storyline change was way better, if they had stuck true to the game it could have just been another action sequence and I like that the show has been using them sparingly so they don't get stale. This episode was good, but it doesn't advance the plot really.

Oh man Jamie Woodward, the Word of God interview about author intent won't matter if they decide the creator is/was somehow "compromised." The initial intention always somehow lines up with what they choose to believe: incredible, right?. I mean, I flat out asked what they thought the magazine comment that Ellie made meant, and the mental gymnastics they went through were olympic level. Eh Philbo, s'all good right. Gotta have some different perspectives, and while I don't agree with ya, that's a whole category more thought out and legitimate than the stuff I've had to listen to for literal hours.

Kit Charron

And that’s fine, I’m not gonna sit here and try to argue to change your mind lol everyone’s views are different

Philbo

don't agree whatsoever, episode 3 showed backstory for Bill that we never get to see in the game, and sure it changed his story but definitely for the better. Bill died of his own volition, old, and in the arms of his husband. in this apocalypse, that's extremely rare. bill in the game was a bitter, lonely man whos boyfriend left him and killed himself because of how insufferable he was. show Bill won, hands down. as for this episode, it was necessary, to show the backstory of Ellie and how she got bit, and show her relationship with Rylie. saying it was unnecessary would be saying the DLC was unnecessary, which i also don't agree. people who played the game would have been really upset, me included, if the full story wasn't played out.

Jam

lol show you "local sorta friend group" the podcast in which the CREATOR of the show says Bill was indeed ALWAYS meant to be gay in the game.

Jam

Meh, not an opinion I share. What I will say is there are DEFINITELY people who played the game with blinders on that adamantly insist Bill wasn't gay and it was the 'woke mob' that made them cram it in the show*. I've been listening to them for weeks in my local sorta-kinda-friend group. Media literacy is less common than it should be. *it's purely anecdotal, but I've been in these group conversations in person where the echo chamber effect is immense. It should be obvious, but if they don't want to see it: so, they'll find a way to excuse it or explain it in ways that make themselves feel more comfortable with the subject matter in order to safeguard their preconceptions. At least 2 of the individuals in my group outright refused to play the 2nd game based on what they heard prior to release.

To me, episode 3 i don’t think any cared that they were gay since it was hinted at in the game. The issue to me was that made that the sole focus of bills story which was unnecessary and then to have him commit suicide which to me was fucking stupid. I much preferred how the game played out due to the interactions between bill, Joel and Ellie. Samething with this episode I’m sure everyone who played the game knows that Ellie is gay, but 90% of this episode was like playing an open world game and just walking through an area with nothing there. It was unnecessary they could’ve just had small glimpses of the dlc during the present and then have the infected seen be the focus of showing the dlc if that makes sense. I think the lack of action arguement mainly came up when they did such a dog shit job with the university scene.
