I really enjoyed your rant about Pearl lmao. I am really not a fan of her, and I find it hard to excuse the way she treats people sometimes. It's wild that people are telling you guys how you should feel about her.

I like Pearl a lot, sure she has a few flaws just like the other gems, but she's sweet and caring and usually right. I don't think she was really being that mean to Greg, what she was saying definitely had some fair points. Amethyst is definitely my least favorite, especially in the early episodes she was such a P.O.S. It's like she was just an asshole to be an asshole, because she enjoyed messing with people and enjoyed the suffering of others. I don't mind a brash character but she was too much. I will say in these last few episodes she has gotten much better, but she has kind of felt irrelevant and pushed to the background lately. I actually thought Garnet was pretty belittling to Greg, "You tried." which really shocked me, I really like Garnet and I thought that moment was a bit condescending and out of character for her.

Let reactors FREELY evolve their opinions without dropping hints which are basically soft spoilers about the direction of character development. Hell, even when you know why a character is the way they are, you don't HAVE to like them. It's subjective. And it's fictional. So it's not a big deal.

Even as someone with all the context who feels a lot of pity and compassion for her, she’s just a very unpleasant person sometimes and she’s still my least favorite gem. It’s all understandable but like, it doesn’t mean she’s suddenly a kinder person because you have context.

2023-02-25 02:10:19 +0000 UTCThat's definitely a huge part of it for sure, and when it comes to Pearl specifically I can understand that her arc is emotionally intense and she means a lot to some people, so they are very attached to and protective of her. But you also can't expect or force people to have the same reaction that you did - they may naturally come around to Pearl when all is revealed but they also could still be critical of her by the end of the show and it's still valid because it's THEIR perspective. People can like things, people can hate things, people can be critical of things, or have a profound connection to things. That's what makes reaction channels interesting in the first place.

Watching y'all experience the show for the first time is so refreshing for that very reason, and it really sucks that some of them have made their way into your community. The whole point of SU is growth! Steven learns to be a gem, and the gems learn to be more human. Of course they're going to be huge jerks sometimes especially in S1, and I'm glad you drew that hard line of like, letting yourself react to them in the moment. That's what most of us are here for. I've been in the fandom since 2014-2015, and I have to agree with many that the very vocal minority of the fandom is one of the most obnoxious groups of people I've ever seen, giving even THOSE Rick and Morty fans a run for their money. There'll be an episode in the future where the fanbase did something so gross that it ran the risk of real-world consequences, and I hate it. I'll save that story for when we get to that episode, though. For now, glad to see you guys sticking up for yourselves against what is known to be a very toxic subsection of community. On a lighter note, I do love the implication that Amethyst has only ever started vehicles in the past by hotwiring them.

I know Garnet and Pearl have aspects of two different kinds of mothers but Garnet just seems to be the one who stands out for me especially as the series goes on.

And honestly I can say the same for all of them, and that's why the show is so good and interesting. Everybody has flaws, and sometimes those flaws grate on you and you end up not liking a certain character. And that's so cool!

If the toxicity from people who have watched the show continues, then when Pearl actually *does* do cool things that everyone likes, it won't hit as hard because people were all 'told you so, you should have known about that from the start'.

Both being rife with flaws. The show eventually brought these two sides closer together, but I think people forget that its pretty natural at this time to have a prefference.

I know a lot of fans see Pearl as his adopted mom the most but honestly with how many cute moments and bonding moments the two have, I consider Garnet his adopted mom more than Pearl. Also feel free to dislike Pearl. She’s quite annoying in Season 1 and it can take awhile to warm up to her even after learning her backstory. It’s always fine to dislike a character even if others like them.

These characters were written with character flaws that they should be called out for, so that later we could understand why they're that way and grow with them. I can understand a fan wouldn't want to only hear bad things about a character you love, but you should be able to accept at least some criticism.

2023-02-24 18:01:44 +0000 UTCI think Story for Steven is when I absolutely realized how good the show is, it just gave me a feeling I can't explain, but whenever I watch an episode of a show like this, I just get a good feeling for like the rest of the day. To this day it's still my 2nd favorite episode (my fav is a S3 ep, I think that ep is better but this one I had more fun with this though) and it's just great. When I first watched the ep it felt like it had gone on for 30 minutes by the time it ended (which is great) and the song "Like a Comet" may be one of the more unpopular ones but I instantly fell in love with it, it was my favorite song for like pretty much the whole series (it's my 2nd favorite now) and it's actually a song I listen to unironically. This episode is good and I'm just so happy you guys got up to this point, anyways have fun with season 2! **Kind of spoilers below this point!!** if anyone was curious my favorite episode is Earthlings and my favorite song is happily ever after.
