I love the sneaky shots of Father in this 1st episode. So damn mysterious and intriguing!

Fun fact: Ed’s English voice actor Vic Mignogna, is the same English voice actor for Luciano Bradley, or the vampire of Britannia from code geass.

Easiest thing to do is torrent it, install a vpn on your computer and download qbittorrent then open the .torrent file or click the magnet link and wait for it to download, then you'll never have to worry about buffering or finding links. I can send you a torrent link if you want to do it.

OK so in 2006 there was an anime called "Fullmetal Alchemist". It was probably the first super popular mainstream anime in the west. Excellent anime, that really took it's time and fleshed out the characters. At a certain point it caught up with the manga so they had to go with their own route which was also great. The anime was so popular internationally that they made this reboot series "Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood" using character designs closer to the manga artist, and faithfully adapting the rest of the manga after the diverging point.
This anime assumes that you already watched the original. This first episode was filler but showcased some fun stuff for manga readers. The next few episodes retrace the first ~30 episodes of the original series but at blinding speed. Most gree the original handles this half of the show way better, they just want to get it outta the way. They go so fast that they forget to introduce characters that show up later.
My recommendation is to watch the original maybe on your own time after the corresponding episodes. Again both great anime. Also back in the day anime took years to come over so they really used time to refine the casting for dubs. FMA has one of the best dubs in history so the basically brought the same cast back for the remake, and the sub is great too so you aren't losing anything by watching it however you prefer! People will gripe because its a rare good dub but do whats best for you.

luckily the series will elaborate on alchemy more & show some examples of what's possible

well, "the other" FMA already did it's own thing after exhausting the source material & as far as people told me that's one of the main reason people wanted FMA Brotherhood after the manga was finished, to get something manga-canon.
Could be wrong though

To clarify on a thing you asked: Transmutation circles aren't taboo. Alchemists need them to perform alchemy. Human transmutation however is a big taboo. (that was mentioned in this episode)

Really glad you are doing the dub here. This is the one show where even total sub fans prefer the dub. For a good reason

This episode is not actually part of the manga. It was made for the show specifically. Other than this the show is very faithful to the manga.
I personally don't really like this episode because it kinda misrepresents what this show really is in favor of action. Pretty much all other episodes are excellent though!

Sounds good! You should do your best to enjoy it in your preferred way🙂. Can’t wait for the next episodes! It’s funny that you started fmab after code geass. When me and my friends originally watched it this was also the show that took its place.

Ok so I am sticking with the dub! I found it on Hulu with the matching subtitles! It might lag so I’ll probably just add the display cap after so we don’t run into that issue! Hopefully they don’t make the screen black either. I did do a practice run to check this and they haven’t so far so we’re good as of now. They might do that later on though... 🙏🤞

I would definitely say go with the dub for this one, it’s generally considered the best option for this show

When it comes to subs or dubs just do what makes you happy. This is one of those animes that both are equally amazing with the voice actors just peaking in different moments, but over all both are out of this world. So just do what you and try not to trip about it too much. I do have a little bias since ive seen it in both jap and english and am watching this again more for the reaction than for the story.
