Full length reaction
Added 2020-12-23 17:36:55 +0000 UTCPeople ask me sometimes why I don't include full-length reactions to movies. There's a few reasons...I tried with Infinity War when we did that, and it immediately got claimed and blocked. It could also result in a copyright strike which would be detrimental to me. I can argue fair use now showing clips and then discussing them.
I do know some other creators are able to do it through Google Drive which I've considered. For this next My Friend Watches, I might be able to get away with it on YouTube, but what are your thoughts on just having the room audio and only movie visual? You could even have the movie playing with the audio at your discretion and watch along with us.
Just throwing around ideas and would love your feedback.

I like the suggestions that Wolf of Alba made. I subscribe to every service in the universe so I'm able to watch along with your reactions, although I'm not sure that applies to everyone else out there. But maybe try a few different ways and see which one gets the best traction? You could do it with a poll for your "5 different options of full length reaction formats" and see how they rank. I think most of us are okay with a bit of experimentation to find the best fit.

2020-12-24 01:04:03 +0000 UTCUploading the whole movie in a video starts going into a rabbit hole of copyright circumvention that, in my opinion, detracts from the creative and additive process that you're already doing. In my personal opinion, a bonus for patreon backers like a full reaction video would be nice, BUT with only the intro cinematic/first couple of minutes from whatever you're watching, letting people synchronize their own version of a movie with yours. We are already getting the "significant" reactions with video in the edits you make. Full length movies with a reaction track attracts a different kind of audience, without the emotional investment in the Holden content. In my opinion. Also, when are you going to let Matt show you Rocketeer, the pre-MCU superhero movie that can totally go toe to toe with any of them? <3

2020-12-23 23:52:42 +0000 UTCI'd enjoy some full reactions but only if it doesn't take too much of your time. If you had to cut back on other content I'd rather not have full reactions. As for how, doing it on Youtube is definitely out, Google Drive or similar. I think adding the movie audio in its entirety could get you into trouble legality-wise so room audio only. A reaction channel I followed for a while had the movie windowed in the bottom center and showed it for a short time in the beginning so that you could sync your own copy to it and then periodically for brief moments throughout so you could match up if it got out of sync (I assume because of the whole PAL/NTSC mess).

2020-12-23 22:09:52 +0000 UTCFor me it depends on the movie. If I really love the movie and want to see more than just thr highlights then if there was an option that you figured out how tondo the full length without getting in trouble then heck ya I would totally watch the full length

2020-12-23 22:07:14 +0000 UTCHey Holden, I’m a huge fan and will be on board for whatever you decide. I’ve loved watching your content through COVID and look forward to what’s to come for you.

2020-12-23 21:57:51 +0000 UTCHaha, Pastor and I will probably start watching through them together now. My next big purchase this year will probably be some type of better audio setup. Either mics on all of us, or additional rode mics. SOMETHING that can make the actual "reaction" portion better. Until I can get a higher quality camera so I can film all of us and the image not be quite so blurry when zoomed in.

2020-12-23 21:33:49 +0000 UTCnot gonna suggest anything other reaction channels do, because they usually record alone or with 2 people tops. while you make it an event with up to even 7 people or something. So technically it could be done... but it would take away the experience, and that counts for Matt especially, to give at least a little edge for positive review sometimes... You could play around with mics and stuff that would in fact reduce echo from the movie in your recordings and you would add movie sound layer separately (or in case of full video just letting us know when you start so we can watch along) but it's a challenge to keep the process as close to current event format while making the raw data clean enough not to need extra work for full-vid crazed patrons xd I personally don't need the full vids, I barely have time as it is, BUT if there WERE already full vids.... I wouldn't not watch them, you know xd And I still can't believe you didn't see first 3 Fast and Furious movies! That was the most shocking thing I heard this month...

2020-12-23 20:22:14 +0000 UTCI've thought similar things. Maybe a little treat for Patrons is that I could go back and release the full reactions since I archive everything. I just dont want to break any laws, I don't want my channel flagged, and I want it to be worth it for Patrons.

2020-12-23 18:55:03 +0000 UTCHonestly I never watch full length videos, the one time I did I believe the patreon used google drive and that was an easy experience for me.

2020-12-23 18:45:46 +0000 UTCMy advice, and this is something that alot of reaction channels do, is they will record themselves, then overlay the episode or movie in the corner or something, without any audio from the movie or episode, just the personal audio from the reaction. Then they will show the first few seconds of the video, and then hide the majority of the overlayed footage in a black box or something, only showing the edges. Another option and this is what blindwave (a large reaction channel) does, is they will only record their reaction, and then put a timer in the corner showing how far you are into the episode or movie. And then you would count down from 3 on both before clicking. Just some ideas, I've always wanted to see a full length reaction. Obviously it's a huge commitment to have to potentially edit an extra video. But if you go ahead with it I'd definitely be interested. Tbh I wish you'd have done it for RotS. Anyway love what you do man!
2020-12-23 18:33:53 +0000 UTCAbsolutely!
2020-12-23 18:12:30 +0000 UTCThat's what I'm thinking too. I likely wouldn't do it for everything, but those movie I know people have been wanting to see. Like Logan for example.

2020-12-23 17:50:48 +0000 UTCI'm only interested in full length reactions for major movies like Endgame, and I appreciated how you did the live stream with the timer for Endgame. I wouldn't bother watching a full length reaction for most things

2020-12-23 17:44:30 +0000 UTCOthers use headphones to avoid recording audio, but that greatly reduces the viewing experience

2020-12-23 17:43:48 +0000 UTCI follow a creature who reacts the whole video but blurs it out but has the blurred movie on screen so you can follow along while watching your own copy of whatever it is that is being reacted to.
