i mean the reaction Gon had when Kite lose his arm to protect them is indeed to scream in rage and his first instinc is to fight while Killua first instinc is to run, yes the parallele betwen Gon reaction and Killua reaction to this event is interessing, but at this exact moment Gon havent lost anything or live any traumatic event, so what the whole part about "a key catalyst that brings Gon's deep-seated abandonment issues and unresolved emotions surrounding his father, Ging Freecss". if someone lost something is Kite who had only lost an arm at the moment...
in our world it could make sense to call that "traumatic" but in HxH lose an arm isnt that big of a deal, a severed arm can be reatach, and Gon who have willingly sacrified both of his hand before wouldnt get traumitise by Kite loosing an arm, he just get mad at the moment, and the fact Kite got injured protecting him doesnt help, but isnt traumatic and doesnt act as a catalyst for anything, gon is use to see death, he wont get traumatise cause somone he admire get injured... i dont said he wouldnt care but it make no sense to be a "traumatic event" when we considere the world they live on and the experience Gon have had in his life...
everything you said make no sense (at the moment of the attaque and before Gon got knock out, he dont have time to process anything in this few second) and we didnt see Gon being defeated or have any internal battle like Killua have once he wake up he doesnt seems traumatise at all...
EVERYTHING you said make perfect sense later on tho but Gon had no reason to be traumatise at this very moment and he doesnt show any of the issue you've talk about... and the show follow the same narative , he isnt traumatise and none of the issue you've talk about have any impact at this very moment and had no repercution in the few next episode either.
anyway i still think ur comment deserve a 10/10 but i would absolutly despise you if i had read it on my first watch, you comment make the direction thing will go for Gon obvious (at least to someone like me) so i would considere it a spoiler, it just give to much information and to much to think about to early...
nothing at this very moment lead the spectator to think about "Gon's deep-seated abandonment issues and unresolved emotions surrounding his father" these issue explain why he will react the way he will react to Kite death,
since Kite is still alive in his mind there is nothing to explain at the moment, so pointing out why he will react the way he will react when facing the truth, before he had to face it, and react to hit, make no sense to me and is therefore a spoiler for what is about to happen in this arc.
anyway i realy strugle with this comment i feel like a lack vocabulary to exprim myself the want i would have wanted to in english on that subject, so, sorry if it doesnt make any sense to you x)
also i hope it doesnt seems harsh and you wont take it personaly!
at the end of the day for the spoiler part, you can agree or disagree with me but i would said:
"better safe than sorry" everyone have they own perspective of what they considere a spoiler or not, if there is a risk i would said it's better to not risk it and let them read ur comment later, rather than taking the risk of spoiling them...
anyway i wish you a good day/night :)

Thank you Noakey for your perspective. However I do not agree with the part that my comment is a spoiler.
My analysis concerns the moment Gon lets out that scream and what that represents on a psychological level.
Yes, when Gon wakes up he declares that Kite is still alive. His reaction can be seen as a mix of denial and delusion, stemming from the trauma of witnessing Kite’s brutal defeat by Neferpitou. This response reflects Gon’s inability to fully process the overwhelming grief and guilt he feels.
His usual optimism becomes distorted into a desperate belief that everything will turn out alright, highlighting his struggle to cope with the trauma of POSSIBLY losing someone he deeply admired.

Hello J&J, this was a heartbreaking episode for me when I 1st watched it, but I just wanted to praise Togashi for the way he arranges his scenes and arcs, here's why.
You guys already noticed that he seems to love giving us heartwarming and hopeful moments only to be slapped in the face with shocking tragedies like this. But did you also notice that he does the same with arcs? it's like he alternates between lighthearted arcs and very dark themed ones.
For example: Hunter Exams (light) - Rescuing Killua (dark since we witnessed how cruel his family can be) - Heavens Arena (light) - Yorknew City/Phantom Troupe (darker) - Greed Island (light although there's massacre involved but they're depicted in a not so brutal way) - and then we have Chimaera Ant which is by far the darkest arc we've come across so far in your HxH journey. Now we're seeing how brutal the anime can be and how it can mess with our opinions on humanity's innate goodness/evilness.
AoT was different in the sense that they rarely showed very lighthearted arcs, it was a continuous unending fight for the truth full of misery and loss.
And also with the art style, can you imagine if Togashi drew HxH realistically or in kind of an AoT type of art style? this Anime would instantly be up there in the most traumatic anime to exist with all the way characters die. Which is why I believe he also intentionally designed some of the protagonists and antagonists to look goofy/cartoonish with their appearances and wardrobes, it's to desensitize the viewers (including kids at the time of its release) from the realization that this anime is actually very dark and overly mature for kids to watch.
Anyway, the death of Kite triggered this thought from me because I remembered how shocked I was, its the same feeling i got when I saw the Red Wedding episode from GoT.

i completly agree with everything you've just said but i feel like it is to early to said it, especialy for the Gon part, at this moment Gon still believe Kite his alive (he also dont have the capacity that Killua have to judge his oponent strenght, Killua was alway the one doing it in every arc and Gon is always clueless about how strong someone may be until someone else explain it to him) so i wouldnt say he is in denial for Kite death either, he truely believe he his alive, so the traumatic even havent ocurred yet...
what you said about Gon will only make sense and became true once he learn the truth about Kite fate, for now Gon is perfectly fine, therefore talking about the impact Kite death will have to Gon is a bit of a spoiler for what is to come imo.
i hope the modérator will restrain themself to show ur coment to Jared and Jordan for now, but i definitivly hope they will read it at the end of this arc :).
the Killua part is spot on and true right now tho, so only the Gon part is a spoiler

Hi Jared and Jordan,
Thank you again for yet another wonderful reaction. Here are my two cents on this episode. (which in my opinion marks the real start of this arc)
This episode should be titled TRAUMA X AND X TRAUMA
1. Gon's trauma and abandonment issues: (Gon's horrific scream)
Gon experiences a traumatic event that profoundly shapes his emotional and psychological development: the attack on Kite by Neferpitou. This event is not just a moment of horror and helplessness but a key catalyst that brings Gon's deep-seated abandonment issues and unresolved emotions surrounding his father, Ging Freecss, to the forefront. Moreover, the bond Gon shared with Kite, who had become a surrogate father figure, only intensifies the impact of this trauma. The interplay between these dynamics reveals Gon’s vulnerability, his attachment needs, and how the possible loss of Kite echoes his earlier sense of abandonment by Ging.
The attack on Kite serves as a trigger for these deeper issues. Kite, who Gon meets before this traumatic event, is indirectly linked to Ging, as Kite was once Ging's apprentice. Kite quickly assumes a mentor role, helping Gon and Killua navigate the Chimera Ant threat, and provides Gon with the fatherly guidance that he has always craved. Kite embodies the qualities Gon wishes he could have found in Ging: strength, wisdom, and a willingness to protect.
2. Killua's Traumatic response: (Killua's Inner monologue)
Killua's upbringing as an assassin within the Zoldyck family plays a significant role in shaping his psychological response in this episode. Raised in an environment where failure and vulnerability were not tolerated, Killua was conditioned to prioritize survival and to suppress his emotions. However, his friendship with Gon has softened him, allowing him to feel and express emotions he once buried. Despite this, his past training still influences his actions.
Killua’s internal battle is evident in how he processes FEAR. In the presence of Neferpitou, Killua's instinctual reaction is to retreat and protect himself and Gon. This reaction stems from his assassin conditioning, which taught him to flee from threats beyond his control. However, this clashes with his desire to stand by Gon and support him, even in the face of overwhelming danger. Killua feels torn between his training as an assassin and his loyalty to Gon as a friend, adding to the weight of his internal struggle.
P.S: Killua's "Gon you are light" still stands as one of my favorite quotes of the show. it never fails to make me tear up! 😭❤️

Kite jumped in the way between Neferpitou and Gon and Killua. That is why Killua said it might have been better for Kite if they weren't there. There are many parallels of "Light" and "Darkness" in this episode, not just Gon/Killua as mentioned by ZedStar above, but also Kite/Neferpitou. Kite showed true sacrifice for Gon and Killua by defending them against the dark. Kite is one of the OG!!! This is where the Arc truly begins!
Also, Morel is probably my favorite character this arc besides obviously Gon and Killua. There are a few others that are my favorites as well including Netero and a couple others. Are you ready, J&J??? LETS F***ING GOOOOO!!!!!!
(Also, I would say that you should be able to watch the end credits this time since this finally happened, but to be safe, probably not until after episode 91, someone quote me whether or not its okay yet)

now we have a glimps of how strong a royal guard is...
that being said we had a view of the area they fight (at 26h35 to 25:60), and the whole area is damaged, also pitou herself isnt pristine, she have bruise on her hand, knee and face even if she dont seems to have any severe injury she isnt all cleen either, we can assume the fight was fierce, i dont think she kill Kite in a instant...
even with a single arm Kite wasnt weak.

You finally reached this, it felt so long yet so short. This episode caught me off guard so much with ending that I didn't even have time to process what happened and get emotional over given that Kite is like my top 3 characters in HXH and then he just dies off camera... but yeah, this is why this is one masterpiece anime, it's nearly impossible to get what's gonna happen and even if you guess you still get surprised or chocked from it.
I love how Jordan? (sorry I'm originally bad with faces and I always confuse you) didn't even realize what happened lol

i mean this arc get dark but did you really still think of HxH as a kid show after the Yorkshin City arc ?
this arc alredy had death everywere and the "requiem" for Uvo one of the shadow beast that get tortured and the kurapika/uvo fight that was very dark (especialy the way it ended) not to mention the black market itself :x
so i find it surprising...
that being said "kid" refer to children under 10y old to me, but i heard poeple talk about adolescent when they said "kid" so it depend what do you mean by "kid show" i guess :)

This is one of my favorite episodes of hxh. Our beloved child prodigies face the harsh reality that the world is incredibly cruel and won’t let you make any mistakes without giving you a punishment for it.
The fact that this episode switches from optimism to pessimism so many times is just waaay too good! Reminds me of Mikasa’s quote that the world is both beautiful and cruel at the same time.

This episode. this is when the arc actually started for me, the whole time before this I knew that things could get worse but never in a thousand years could I have expected this reality check.
Light and dark also represents Gon and Killua, Gon is always filled with hope and determination while Killua on the other hand had a dark upbringing and a tougher life-style, they both need each other more than anything else in the world.
Gon would never be caught off guard by an attack from an enemy but he has his guard down to Killua because he trusts him, then Killua hits him in the back of the head to make sure they are out of there
Killua also desperately needs Gon, you can see when Killua speaks to himself he's filled with doubt and self doubt but the moment Gon starts speaking he sees hope, Killua put it best when he said you are light
Also I'm BEYOND ecstatic to have you boys finally meeting Morel, he is top 10 characters in the show without a shadow of a doubt, I love his voice and I can't wait for yall to learn more about him

While Gon’s optimism and hope that Kite is alive is portrayed in a beautiful way, and seen as beautiful by Killua, I think the writer is actually framing it differently when it’s revealed Kite lost the battle and had his head decapitated.
I think the hope Gon has is framed as naive and delusional. The hope of a kid from whale island way in over his head.
Without the reveal at the end of the episode, I think the following episodes would be hopeful with the audience also believing Kite is alive and well.
Instead, the audience is shown information not available to Gon. Kite lost the battle. Instead of the audience joining Gon on an inspiring journey towards saving Kite, I think I left this episode dreading what’s to come.
I think that decision by the writer of keeping Gon in the dark and the audience in the “light” with knowing what happened to Kite is such an interesting choice. It frames the rest of the arc in a way I haven’t seen any anime arc do.
