Here comes Levi! he is my favourite character of the show and one of my favourite anime character ever. You could have a little glimpse of him being an amazing soldier, his mannerism about filthy and his strong love for his comrades. When on of them was dying he has no hesitation about taking his hand and comfort him, even if full of "filty" blood.

This is the 1st time I've seen anyone confuse Levi for Eren 😂 just to help y'all out a bit, Eren has brown hair and green eyes. Levi has black hair and black eyes. That being said, you've finally met the GOAT that is captain Levi!! He's my favorite character in the show with Mikasa right behind him, but he's also my favorite anime character of all time and I'm sure you guys will love him too! You can see a glimpse of his character this episode with how he was disgusted at getting titan blood on him, but the moment his dying comrade reached out his blood covered hand he did not hesitate to grab it and comfort his soldier 😭 Please pay close attention to his dialogue and mannerisms :) Also, I hope you guys rewatch this episode in dub. Not a spoiler, but watching the OVAs will help to understand major plotpoint further down the story. It is a MUST watch even for regular AOT watchers.

Nah, they rewind and pause the show anyway, so they generally figure it out. I wouldn't be able to watch these reactions if they switched to the dub, Eren's English VA sounds so cringy to me compared to Yuki Kaji.

to me it feels like you two are still not sure about if and how much you want to watch the intros. my idea would be to either just listen to them if you want to get in the mood for the episode or skip them if you cant wait to get into action like in this episode. the visuals most often dont spoil too much, but can be quite confusing on a first watch. i think moving forward it would be a good idea to only watch them on the last episode they appear in to also avoid things like the intro kind of spoiling eren coming back (even though it actually didnt, because all the scenes in the intro showing eren were prior to him getting devoured)

Alas, my ultimate bias in AoT: Levi 😍 Referring to the 1st scene when the survey corps were being shown: Please remember that Eren just graduated and not part of the Survey Corps yet so try not to forget that. The narrator was talking about the Survey Corps and the guy getting eaten clearly said Captain Levi. The narrator was explaining that the Survey Corps went on an expedition into Titan territory when the 2nd attack happened which was why there were a lot of casualties (because SC are the most elite when it comes to killing Titans), so that should tell you that the scenes being shown are of the Survey Corps not of Eren and his friends. And yes Jared, Levi was making a joke that the Aberrant was the woman he was talking to because she is "abnormal" in his eyes (for being excited to see one in the 1st place). He wasn't referring to himself. Levi has slanted eyes, BLACK hair with an undercut, he is shorter in height, and he always has a bored/uninterested facial expression. I know you said it's hard for you to get used to characters' appearances, but you should be able to recognize Eren by now and differentiate him from others. He has big green eyes, DARK BROWN hair and usually has an angry expression. I suggest that maybe you should watch these episodes in dubbed version if you are having a hard time following the subs simultaneously while looking at what's happening, this way you don't get confused which often lead you to rewind or mix up characters with one another.

In TDawg’s defense, while I think the sub is better, Ive also watched the dub. And the last scene of this episode is in my opinion better in dub. The English voice actor for Dr Jaeger is awesome. Go watch this scene, it’s great.

Dude are you actually trolling right now? No one who is "usually a sub watcher" would EVER recommend the AoT dub over the sub. The dub makes AoT seem fake and cringy, especially Eren's VA for it. Not to mention they change portions of dialogue for no reason, something which is vital for understanding AoT. The dub takes away so much subtlety.

Yeah, I mean you gotta see it from their POV, they didn't grow up watching anime and they are just now diving into the medium so they might not pick up on every little detail, nuance, and difference when it comes to the artstyle and animation. Of course, it's different for people like you and me who grew up with anime their whole life and can immediately tell, but that's just it. I'm sure they'll slowly get used to it, and over time they'll get better at telling characters apart even if they look similar.

The thing with this show is it's hard to not want to watch the next episode because every episode is so jam-packed with information and action, it's such an epic rollercoaster and I'm so glad you guys are enjoying it! One thing I will add though is that what Levi said to Hange (the overly excited individual with glasses Levi was talking to, pronounced Han-Jee) before the scouts set out on their expedition didn't really mean anything in particular, he was just making fun of her.

Not a spoiler but I dont think it is mentioned until later in the show, but Levi is seen as "Humanity's strongest soldier". Erwin outranks him as he is the commander but nobody is near him when it comes to titan killing.

As you watch other episodes I suggest you to keep an eye on surnames. Both, of the characters that you already know and those that will be shown in the next episodes. Aot has a crazy storyline that gives you the clues almost in every scene. That's why it's so entertaining to rewatch again and again - every time you see details that you possibly overlooked before.

This episode we saw Captain Levi. A few points here to focus on. Some translations say "Lance Corporal" rather than Captain. A person in the crowd proclaimed that Levi is as strong as an entire brigade. Remember the scene when Levi was speaking with the dying soldier. The soldier said that Levi would exterminate the titans, and Levi promised to. What similarities or differences do you see with Levi and Eren? One thing to remember, a very important detail that is not focused on enough. It will mean almost nothing to you now but is very important in order to understand Levi as a person in the future. When he was speaking with his dying comrade, and the soldier touches his wound coating his hand in blood, Levi firmly grabs his hand despite it.

I'm gonna comment this now in case I forget to do it when you come towards the end of Season 1. AOT has some special episodes called "OVAs". They're not listed in the regular show, so a lot of people have never even watched them. However there are 3 OVAs that are essential to watch to understand certain things/characters better. The other ones are fan-service, so they're nothing more than some fun episodes that are not directly related to the plot, so I'd say it's optional to watch them. These are the ones that are important to watch after Season One: 1. Ilse's Notebook 2. No Regrets Part One 3. No Regrets Part Two. I guess some would recommend to not watch Ilse's notebook until after Season 2 but it came out before Season 2 did so I decided to watch it the way the creator intended.

a small detail i thought was interesting is that if you go frame-by-frame when eren bursts his titan hand out of the santa titan you can see armin still just sitting there in shock. he's not even registering the fact a titan just burst out of another titan cos he just watched his entire team and his best friend get devoured

Super reaction as usual guys keep up the good work ! I cant stop being amazed on character that look similar to you when i have a hard time to find any similarity betwen them (i mean Levi and Eren for exemple look realy different to me) the only similarity could be somewhat the hair color but even then they have a different one Levi have darkest hair color different hair cut and his skin is whiter, his eyes and voice are completly different too, (i mean i've never though about their difference before, cause i've never see any similarity). Dont get me wrong i do understand why they have this issue, it's just something who's never happen to me, (but i've watch anime for several decade and i've watching anime since as long i can remember, i grew up with it on top of the several thousand character i've seen in my life)

i think the best way to watch this show is to not overanalyze or predict what you're watching at the moment. the reveals can make you even more confused if you hold too tightly to what you think you're making sense of. but i do love hearing your thoughts on where this is going and your predictions anyways lolol its so exciting seeing people enter this show with no expectations or prior knowledge about it.

Commander Erwin is one of the best characters in this entire show for me, Love the reactions as always, and please PAUSE as much as you guys need/want to. Biggest reason I enjoy you two going back and forth with each other is understanding how you both perceive what it on screen.
