I joined your patreon after finding your reactions on Youtube, and am binging through your DN reactions (one of my top favorites). I'm obviously just on your episode 9 so I can't tell what you do next, but I really hope you stuck with the subs. The voice acting in Japanese is phenomenal and matches the seriousness of the show, the English sounds too "acty". Plus for this specific episode L's reveal is WAY MORE impactful and intimidating sounding in Japanese, so I hope you went back and watched it like that too. Still happy you're experiencing this amazing show!

They will continue to interrogate you or try to make small talk, you just canโt be charged for not answering their questions. I might be wrong tho if someone knows the law in Canada better pls let me know! ๐จ๐ฆ

Ryuk didn't put a gun to light's head to keep using the death note.. light had the freedom of choice and he started out with an actual good cause for the death note but after realising how much power he has, he turned into the kind of person he wanted to eliminate from the world in the first place

2024-02-29 18:43:39 +0000 UTCi'm sure L is what Light could be if he never had the death note, so i like to assume that maybe L could be the one becoming Kira if he was the one who get the death note, they are both a strong strengh of justice higher intelect and a lot of similarity, the difference is Light was given the power to do something about it when L doesnt, i always ask mayself how thing would turn up if the death note would end up in L hand instead x)

Though I am far from the genius that L is, it's still great to see such an awkward person in a respected position. The fact that he is unapologetically himself makes it even better. Especially as someone who's always been a bit odd myself.

2024-02-27 22:52:15 +0000 UTCI hope you're finally gonna watch the Opening and Ending, they are great and don't have spoilers, but if you want to be EXTRA sure, wait until episode 12 (there is one more character in the intro that you don't know yet, but meet in episode 11, the ending doesn't have any spoilery stuff at all though)

Honestly I think anime is the only thing in this world that has ever made me react out regardless of who is around me, whether it was me screaming at the TV or literally holding my breath, there's nothing else (that I can think of) that has made me do this. If Light finds proof that L is really L, but doesn't figure out his real name, then using the deathnote isn't possible, leaving no other choice but to use his own hands.

2024-02-26 23:32:15 +0000 UTCwhile definitely sometimes played for comedic effect, it's also worth thinking about what apples represent symbolically. someone please check me in the replies if this could be considered giving hints or a bit spoiler-y, but because of the bible, apples came to represent a loss of innocence, temptation, and the knowledge of good and evil. i don't know if you two have any knowledge of popular religious themes or are religious yourselves but if you give it some thought, it's an amazing use of symbolism making ryuk so addicted to them, to the point of doing *anything* in order to taste an apple again. even more so that light gets to levy the apple against him, that something as simple as an apple allows him so much power. replace the apple here with anything that i listed that it can represent, and youโve got an interesting dynamic to work with, in a literary sense and otherwise !

L, and the rest of humanity, dont know shinigami exist. All things considered, L is amazing for getting so close, so fast, because who in their right mind would investigate a murderer and think 'Maybe magic? Maybe God's and Shinigami?'

For example, in the episode where Raye Penber is deceived into revealing names, Light might be leading with a score of 7:3 against L. However, in this episode, the tables could turn as L strategically outmaneuvers Light, rendering him powerless, and the score shifts to 2:8 in favor of L. When Light's identity is on the brink of exposure, his score would approach zero, and vice versa.

You can't tell Y to directly kill someone who you don't know the name of, even if the person is right next to Y for 1 second. you can only control Y's actions. That's why the bus robber wouldn't kill the civilians because light couldn't know who would be there. and because light knew fbi agents can't kill while undercover or carry guns, he wasn't worried Raye would kill the robber. initially you two gave too much power to the notebook when it isn't that OP. Light's brain makes it OP

2024-02-26 16:21:48 +0000 UTCI think it's extremely telling that Light sees himself more as Kira at this point than Light Yagami. After all, his whole life he's worn a mask of whatever society and his family expected him to be, whatever the person he's interacting with would deem as "perfect". He shifts those masks effortlessly and has done so for so long that I don't think he was ever just himself. I don't think Light Yagami knew who he was without other's potential opinions influencing him, which is why he was so bored with his existence and felt without purpose before the Death Note. In that way, the Death Note was Light's first true decision, something he did purely on his own. It became a part of who he is, reshaped his whole world-view, and now Kira feels more like his identity than being his father's son. What I find interesting is that after accidentally killing two people, Light, someone who had been told his entire life that he was perfect, couldn't cope with the idea that he had made such a massive mistake. So in order to protect his mind and the identity he had crafted for himself, his view of the world and the moral lense through which he viewed it altered itself to fit the one thing he knew: That he was perfect and right. Killing those people went from being a mistake to being justice, and his actions were part of a higher purpose.

The most interesting thing to me tbh is how delusional some people are and truly believe nobody can catch on to their weird behaviour because most people in the real world aren't as perceptive. They think they can outsmart some of the authority and psychoanalysis. But Light can as we can see, but he's a very rare case. Nobody would've lasted as long without getting caught. At the same time almost nobody else would be as arrogant as Light, WANTING people to know someone is committing these murders from the get go.

The top scoring student becomes the Freshman Representative and has to give a speech at the entrance ceremony. Since they were tied, both of them gave the speech. The funniest thing is that Light prepared a brilliant speech, and then L gets up and repeats that speech in the most deadpan voice ever. He's holding that paper up for no reason but to screw with Light - you can see it's completely blank. XD

Red meaning would kill for selfish reasons and blue would kill for good reasons. What do you think about L killing Kira for the greater good and do you think this is the same thing Light is doing?

He was literally toying with a god of death because he was a bit annoyed by him. I find the image of him feeding Ryuk in the park like you'd feed pigeons hilarious every time I see it.

Light probably doubts Ryuk would โkill his entertainmentโ.
