Champion Tier - Argynvostholt Update! (Free)

Disclaimer: All content controlled by Wizards of the Coast IP is available for free in compliance with the Fan Content Creation Policy.

Hey everyone! I have a little mid-week surprise for you all. Over the past few days, I've been working on updating my Argynvostholt map, and this is now being released to you all for free as a way of saying THANK YOU for your continued support.

The map itself is the same, however, I made the following changes:

There is a massive amount of map files in this update, and I mean massive! In total, there are over 1,000 different map files between the 4k, 8k, grid, no grid, webp, and all of the weather, color mood, and levels. It was quite the beast, but I'm happy to get this updated to be more consistent with my recent maps.

There are so many files for this one, it was too much to include all in .zip files so this time around, I just created a public link in my Google Drive folder where you can access it all in one place.

You can download all of the updated maps here!

I hope you enjoy these updates and find them useful for your games!

Cheers,

DM Andy

This is because I create all my shadows by hand, and I use a fixed "light source" positioned diagonally from the upper left corner across the image on each map to maintain consistency. But because I'm not rendering this in a 3D tool like Blender, that means the shadows are fixed and don't generally account for other light sources (like the beacon) without having to re-do all the shadows from scratch.

Just noticed that the "Argynvostholt_4k_60x60_NoGrid_70PPI [Roof no Blur, Gloom, Beacon]" version oddly has shadows being casted towards the tower (most noticeabley the rooftop turrets) despite the beacon being lit. Same with the 8k version of it.

I won’t be able to help with the Foundry set up, but the wall on the staircase is really the support beam holding up the stairs above. You would enter the landing from below that small support beam and spiral upwards from there. Hard to visualize in such a small space, but we as DMs know where the stairs lead :)

Andy D'Amato

Hi there. I was prepping these maps in Foundry VTT and discovered that the landings for the spiral staircases on the second floor of the chapel are facing the wrong way. My characters went up the stairs and hit a wall. South staircase wall should be pointing to 10:30 and North staircase wall should be pointing to 7:30.

Yes! Eventually I will have restored versions of everything. I know Argynvostholt would be awesome to see it in its former glory. Same w/ the Abbey. It'll be part of my on-going CoS V2.0 / Restored project. I don't have a timeline for any of these, but I am currently working on re-worked Village of Barovia buildings right now :)

Andy D'Amato

This is awesome! Would there be a chance of ever seeing this and other locations in Barovia getting the "Restored" overhaul? For those of us who like some timey-wimey nonsense... I especially love those with religious connections, patrons, or Divination wizards that I can give interactive visions to. The Berez area benefits a lot from this, as would the Abbey in Krezk.

Thank you so very much for your kind words!! I don't currently have a "restored" version of Argynvostholt but I'll certainly add that to my to-do list. I would probably clean up the interiors by removing webs, rubble, broken furniture, etc and replacing it with something new and updated. I will most likely keep the partially collapsed side still there but maybe board up those areas or reinforce them with some pallisade walls used from the rubble. I'll think on it and see when I can slate this project in for a future release. Thanks for your suggestion!

Andy D'Amato

I love your maps! They're so detailed and gorgeous. My question is this: my players want to restore Argynvostholt and rebuild the manor. Do you currently have a "restored" Argynvostholt where it has no damage, or the rooms are cleared? I'm not sure if you have it already in another map pack, but if not, do you have any interest or consideration regarding making one? I have seen some other "restored" Argynvostholts, but the creators just don't have your style and touch. I would love to make a purchase of a restored Argynvostholt done by your hand, with the beautiful mosaics on the floor, etc. From another artist, although they would be talented as well, it just wouldn't be the same as your RPG art. :)

Everything will line up. The only change I did was not include the "legend" style sidebar with the upper floors since I did the all in one parchment. Otherwise, you should be able to just update the images as is. One thing to note though, is the original version I did was before I started resizing my work in Photoshop to have an even PPI. So for example the original Argyvnostholt in 8k had a PPI of 136.53 while the updated version is 136. I know Foundry does not handle fractions of a PPI so you most likely resized or used the Webp at 140. I'm not sure if you resize the page from 140 to 136 if it will also adjust the walls and lighting. Can you let me know if that causes any issues? If so, I can re-do the Webp files at 140 PPI instead.

Andy D'Amato

Looks so good, Andy! I do have a question - if I've set this up on Foundry previously with the doors, lights etc. will replacing the images there affect any of those setups or should it all still line up with the previous map?

Josh

It's not a bad idea for sure! I had the spirit of Argynvost fight the fortress to my players so they could use it as a beacon of light to stand against evil once they restored his bones. Maybe I can do a version without extensive repairs so the collapsed side could be boarded up and then each room could be cleaned up with new furniture. The central building on the roof rebuilt and wooden planks to seal the hole in the roof. Things like that would be nice touches. I'll add that to my "to-do" list!

Andy D'Amato

This is Awesome Andy very excited to throw this into my campaign! Silly question would you ever consider a version of repaired Argynvostholt? Only wondering as my party might consider using the fort as a base in Ravenloft. Keep up the awesome work love your stuff!

Mr. Gwynplaine

I appreciate you! Thank you so much and happy you enjoyed the update!

Andy D'Amato

Yay! That makes me so happy to hear! Glad you like the updates :0
