Grass (strip)

I use that sprayable dawn dish soap to kill weeds. It’ll kill grass too, but it’s probably easier to reseed grass than to dig out every single root of the thistle. Also, it might be a good idea to check if there’s any pipes/gas lines running through that area of the yard. When my family had a dead patch of grass (we would water it, reseed, everything, it just wouldn’t grow back after it died) my dad found out there was a teeeeny tiiiiiny leak in the gas main. If wasn’t enough to be dangerous to us, but enough to poison the soil in that little area. If nothing else works on that lil’ patch of grass, I’d suggest maybe looking at that route.

When I lived in Florida, the grass would grow on my blacktop driveway better than it would the dirt. At one point, I discovered my driveway was actually a full 4 feet wider than I realized: just had two feet of grass on either side growing on it!

I just finished pulling hundreds of thistles around our pond!! The pond is an acre big!!

Lawns are a ridiculous concept, honestly. Who decided to remove all the pretty wildflowers from their yard, just to replace them with a plain-looking plant that wouldn't require all this work if it was meant to grow there?

My yard also has a thistle problem. I swear, the previous owner must have intentionally planted it. I dug out at least 20 the first summer, and probably 10 the next summer. Only found one so far this year, but it was growing in the paving stones of a path, so I can't fig out the roots. Damn thistle. I also had a mystery pricker that just rose 10 feet into the air for no reason. Just one "branch." I don't want to get stabbed, nature, please.

Years ago a H&G series recommended pouring boiling water where the weed and ground come together. Takes 2 days to die, but safe for nature.

Frankly enough, that sweetheart is probably the reason of both. Urine causes yellow patches in the grass, and thistles trive in those high-nitrogen areas once the first load of urine has been rained in.
