That dog and Brutus know each other from long ago. Old war buddies. When Pixie is at the peak of danger, she calls out Brutus‘s name, or tells the threatening dog about Brutus and a mental light goes on,the light of fond memories. The dog becomes Pixie’s protector as he leads her out of the cornfield to her home and to a warm, renewal of he and Brutus‘s friendship. Brutus is indescribably grateful to his old friend for his return and protection of Pixie. The new dog, fierce on the outside, soft on the inside, becomes a recurring character in the story of Brutus and Pixie’s adventures.
