Super Pixie (strip)

I feel like Pixie sometimes when I'm reading a book. Like "yeah, we get it author/writer; you know lots of words." But it kinda defeats the whole point of comunication if you have to reference a dictionary every sentence just to understand what someone is saying gosh darnit!!!

Cute, funny, and very educational. Thank you. :)

Mr Wrinkles is my favorite character of yours! Whenever they make an appearance it makes my day!

Lauren Eras

Aww and Mr. Wrinkles feels bad! Definitely a heart of gold in there, he's a worthy friend for Brutus!

Sherri Antal

He went full IQ psycho mode on her without even trying, ha ha! What a flex. Mr. Wrinkles: "I'm so sorry! Henceforth, I shall never flex my staggering intellectual and articulative powers on a child!" (Years later) Teenage Pixie: "Hey Mr. Wrinkles, what's up?" Mr. Wrinkles: (Cracks neck)

Sometimes saying a less common word can convey subtle meaning that the more common word can't.

Andrew Diseker

He probably doesn't have to say anything by now, just flick his ears back or scowl, and anyone would know they're out of line

Kim Martin

Am I the only one who sees Brutus just out of frame "coaching" Mr. Wrinkles?

I think wording is very important in that different words can portray different meanings. To be sad is one thing, but to be distraught is another. That being said, it's also a matter of audience and characterization. Pixie not understanding but learning these words signify how she's young and naive to a certain extent, but Mr. Whiskers seems aged with his vocabulary, though he understands here that we sometimes need to 'dumb down' things. Again, though, it's important to remember audience, and sometimes you don't need to say someone is distraught. You can simplify and say they are sad. Man, a comic about pets can get really insightful!

Very insightful of Mr. Wrinkles to realize he should scale down his vocabulary to an age appropriate level for Pixie, although I don’t know if he’s actually capable of speaking without using big words. But as an adult I like learning new words. Before the Internet, when I was reading a book, I would I would look up words I didn’t know in a dictionary and write them down on a bookmark. It’s even easier now with online dictionaries.

I feel the same way sometimes. Like everyone has much larger language skills than me.

Great realization, now he just has to stick with it
