We've got it pretty safe here in Minnesota as far as snakes go; the worst one is the Timber Rattlesnake, but they're rare, and pretty much every other snake is harmless. What about you guys?

Germany: adders are poisonous but it is very unlikely to get bitten. Also in my whole life I've seen just one adder. However grass snakes are quite common. They're not dangerous and I think they are sweet :)

We have rattlers too, they aren't so bad, they sound off when ya get close.

Eastern massasauga rattlesnakes. O.o
But since they're on the threatened species list, the odds of seeing one are probably pretty slim.

Yay Minnesota! We love where the air hurts our face instead of poisonous critters
2020-10-14 22:52:02 +0000 UTC
We have the timber rattler as well and the copperhead. Other areas of Pennsylvania have more species however. Thing is, timber rattlers really aren't an aggressive species. They usually use their rattle to let an intruder know they are around. Copperheads can be a bit trickier sadly. The majority will slither away and hide, but you do get tue occasiinal one that wants you to know it's not afraid. Still, they are very important to the ecosystem and need respected. Love snakes and have a few as pets. I also inform people ( I go to schools and teach children in hopes that they see snakes as something not to fear).

Was walking my little Chihuahua last week and she started barking like crazy. I looked over near the wall, about 5 feet from us, saw the biggest Rat Snake I've ever seen. It was easily 8 feet long and moving pretty fast along the wall. Fortunately, there are a lot of roof rats and rabbits near the big park on the other side of that wall. My little guy is about the size of Pixie and wouldn't stand a chance! I had to be Brutus and get us the heck outta there!

Wonder how these two would react to a ball python.
Not much danger there. They just kinda sit there in a pile.

Here in NW Arkansas we seem to have everything...water moccasin, copperhead, green snakes, black snakes... I had a kitten who loved bringing us baby snakes to play with in the driveway.
2019-03-19 15:08:31 +0000 UTC
I'm from New Mexico, so we have a couple different types of rattlesnakes and other types of snakes. I, personally, love snakes, and I have a Pinterest board called "Snakes are Misunderstood" , and I would love to see a P+B comic with a sweet little ball python, personally. This was so adorable, though, I love it.

Aussie - so snakes in the wild are generally venemous
2019-03-18 23:59:05 +0000 UTC
in finland we only have 3 snakes Smooth snake (non-ven), Grass snake(non-ven) and Vipera berus in finnish its called kyy and its venomous but harmful to children and oldpeople and pets but its also really shy and slithers away really fast to awoid you. :)

I'm from Queensland, Australia and venomous snakes are fairly commonplace where I live.
2019-03-14 23:29:58 +0000 UTC
In Sweden we have but two species of snakes. And only one of them (the common European adder or viper) has venom strong enough to be of concern for dogs/cats. But it's a minor problem in reality as they are scarse and generally avoid us noicy humans.

Here in Ohio we got the massasauga rattlesnake, the northern copperhead, and the timber rattlesnake. The first two are very shy and bites are rare and have very few fatalities. The timber is mostly found in southern Ohio where we still have some major woodlands (as most of Ohio is farmland). But we also both the black widow and brown recluse here too.

I live in Texas. I walked barefoot down the driveway and almost stepped on a copperhead a few summers back. There was a rattler in the boat. A big rat snake slithered past me a while back. I killed a weird looking snake at a friend’s house because she was terrified. I’m not sure what that one was. When I looked up it’s coloring, it said it was from New England, and that made no sense unless it had been someone’s pet and escaped. Those are all the ones I’ve seen recently at least. Oh and of course garder/garden snakes.

I'm a Florida girl. When I was a teen my parents bought a house on a lake. In the summer my mom and I would stay at the lake house while my dad was at work. Right after noon would be the hottest part of the day, usually deathly still, so no sailing for me. My mom would hole up with soap operas and the wall unit a/c. I'd head to a lounge chair I could put in the water under the dock in the shade with a good book. One afternoon as I was reading a water moccasin swam out of the weeds on the other side of the dock, then directly under the lounge chair and off toward the next patch of water lilies. What a fright! After that I splashed more when in the water and sat on the lounge chair on top of the dock.
2019-03-07 02:40:51 +0000 UTC
Had to google it XD. I'm a Wisconsinite, so we only have 2 poisonous rattlesnakes here, but they're SUPER rare, only a handful located in the south-western corner. I live in the southeastern, so I never really had to worry about them.
Now coyotes - those mofos I def had to steer clear of.

New Hampshire has timber rattlers, but they're exceedingly rare and only (typically) in the deepest of remote, old-growth forest. I say typically, because last summer, one was spotted in someone's backyard in one of our larger city suburbs on the southwestern part of the state! They're very nonaggression, though, so as long as they're given their space, nobody gets hurt.

I live it northern Oregon so there are no snakes I am aware of, it’s great
2019-03-06 23:50:09 +0000 UTC
I live in Florida so we've got an aray rattlesnakes, cotton mouths, copperheads, coral snakes, and pythons in the everglades. Plus all of the harmless species of black snakes, rat snakes and varies other sorts.🤷♀️
2019-03-06 23:47:16 +0000 UTC
We have the Eastern Timber Rattlesnake, northern copperhead and massasauga rattlesnake in Ohio. But all three are more located in southern and eastern Ohio
2019-03-06 23:47:06 +0000 UTC
I'm in outback Australia and our farm sees lots of red bellied black snakes which are rather venomous but as long as you don't annoy them they are pretty safe :) (you just always have snake bandages when you go hiking!)
2019-03-06 23:14:39 +0000 UTC
I live in Australia, where there are more venemous snakes than safe snakes. We just always keep a watchful eye out here :)

2019-03-06 23:09:14 +0000 UTC
We get a looooooot of rattlesnakes where I’m from, Mojave Green, Diamondback, Sidewinder,
2019-03-06 23:08:53 +0000 UTC
Theoretically we have timber rattlesnakes and copperheads here in Massachusetts, but they are very rare.

2019-03-06 22:55:17 +0000 UTC
NM and the diamondback rattlesnakes are starting to come out. We live in a fairly rural spot and expect them to poke their heads out and say hi at any time now 😕.
2019-03-06 22:51:42 +0000 UTC
Arizona. Rattlesnakes are all coming out of hibernation now, hungry and thirsty,so we have to watch where we step if going out into uncultivated areas.
2019-03-06 22:46:41 +0000 UTC
Here in the East Bay area of San Francisco CA, we have lots of rattlesnakes. They normally are around the trails and the open spaces; just need to keep your eyes and ears open for them when out hiking and walking your dogs.
2019-03-06 22:40:31 +0000 UTC
At least one other person mentioned the Pacific Northwest! Northwestern Oregon is dangerous snake free. I do sometimes see tiny little garter snakes in gardens though! They're tiny and cute.

Here in Sweden we only have 3 species - 2 harmless and 1 venomous; the smooth snake (Coronella austriaca), the grass snake (Natrix Natrix), and the common Viper, (Viperidae). We also have the "blindworm" (Anguis fragilis), which isn't a snake (nor a worm despite it's name) but rather a lizard with only tiny, barely visible nubs left for legs.
2019-03-06 22:29:36 +0000 UTC
The worst we have here is the Western Diamondback, occasional cottonmouth. The rest are fairly harmless. Hognose and things like that

We have the Western Rattlesnake here in Pacific Northwest Washington, but that's in the Eastern part of WA thankfully hahah.
My neighborhood snakes are very harmless and cute
2019-03-06 22:21:32 +0000 UTC
Northern Pacific Rattlesnakes in the Okanagan area of Canada. A few other big potentially deadly animals in these parts, but just the one venomous snake.
2019-03-06 22:20:21 +0000 UTC
SE MN here and nothing really except the occasional timber like you said, otherwise garter, and bull snakes.

AUSTRALIA!!! Even garbage bins can kill.
2019-03-06 22:18:24 +0000 UTC
I'm also in MN. Thank heavens for no venomous snakes, or spiders! Just those nasty, huge, hairy wolf spiders. *shudder* I saw one as big as my palm once. On the dining room table of my parents house. Yuck!

2019-03-06 22:17:33 +0000 UTC

Live in the Blue Mountains, Australia. Near us Copperheads and Brown Snakes are dangerous, and we also have red belly black snakes which are dangerous but not poisonous. We don't have pythons but they're everywhere further north

In south Carolina we got copperheads, cottonmouths and very rarely will you see a eastern diamond back. They are not aggressive so as long as you don't bother them you should be good. Also, I think we have coral snake but that's at the coast.

I've gotta wonder how Pixie is even alive at this point, she is a smol and the world is so big. Water moccasins down south. Plentiful and venomous.

I have a ball python in my second bedroom, but she's fairly harmless 😅
2019-03-06 21:56:26 +0000 UTC
First the eagle, now the snake! You've put lil Pixie in danger 😱 not to mention if Brutus can not make it on time! Pixie gotta learn there are animals that she could not play with and cry for help!
2019-03-06 21:56:18 +0000 UTC
Last fall, my dogs met their first danger-noodle. (I verified that it was just a harmless garter snake, first) My small pomeranian harassed it and ran it off, while my much larger mutt was twitching, sniffing, and observing it from afar.
2019-03-06 21:56:14 +0000 UTC
Northeastern Kentucky, here. We have a variety of snakes, including copperheads and cottonmouths. Some are dangerous, some aren't, but our bunny hutches are well off the ground anyway, and we keep a sharp eye out.

I'm so torn, I love snakes too much 😂 got the adder in England but that's it really. I've owned a hognose and a corn snake though as well as a mix of other "weird" pets :)

And I’m from Denmark, so no dangerous snakes here!

I rarely see them at all but if I do they are harmless, no bad snakes around here

Where I live in Texas, we have cottonmouths, diamond back rattlers, and coral snakes as far as venomous stuff goes

Colombia has over 250 species of snakes but I live in a city so they're rare here, though sometimes you can see those tiny green ones around rivers or parks
2019-03-06 21:48:18 +0000 UTC
I live in Texas, near the coast. We have Water Moccasins and Copperheads here. I have lost one dog to Copperhead bites (Great Dane) and my current dog (pitbull/lab mix) earned her place in our home by preventing me from going near her tree where another Copperhead was waiting in the leaves. Those two snakes scare the hell out of me because they are silent.. Rattlers I can handle because at least you know they are there.

2019-03-06 21:48:09 +0000 UTC
East Texas. Water moccasins, copper heads, timber radler, coachwhips, chicken snakes(harmless but irritating)
2019-03-06 21:47:34 +0000 UTC
We got only vipers in sicily
2019-03-06 21:47:08 +0000 UTC
Not true, we have 3 types of snakes in the netherlands, just not as dangerous as other countries. I think the adder is the most “dangerous”. No deadly snakes though ☺️
2019-03-06 21:46:48 +0000 UTC
No dangerous snakes here in Germany 🍀👋
2019-03-06 21:44:56 +0000 UTC
Water moccasins and copperheads are probably the scariest here. Copperheads don't go out of their way to get you, a water moccasin though, they is mean 😵
2019-03-06 21:44:44 +0000 UTC
I see ribbon snakes here in NH a lot but luckily nothing venomous!
2019-03-06 21:43:55 +0000 UTC
I'm Australian so y'know - snakes, snakes everywhere kind of thing. My dog got bitten when I was 18 by a brown.
2019-03-06 21:43:40 +0000 UTC
HA! Rattlesnake, cotton mouth, copperhead, coral snake....I live on a ranch in Texas so we really have to watch out for them.....I hate snakes personally....well venomous ones anyway.
2019-03-06 21:43:35 +0000 UTC
I think we have some small snakes about in the UK but it's really rare you see them, and i don't think any of them are large enough to eat cats, thankfully!
