We have 24 pages for Episode 50 of Half Sisters! Yay! πΎ And it's certainly an important one for Sandy and Josh.
I really enjoy writing these two together and their complicated (and yet kind of simple) relationship. I can't wait to read your comments!

Thank you, Nina! Sandy is such an interesting character to me for exactly that reason. Obviously she has some trauma over the transition - but mostly she seemed really upset about being lied to and manipulated. The end result she definitely is enjoying quite a bit! How much of that is because sheβs got Josh? I suppose thatβs part of the equation, too - but she absolutely likes being a girl better than a boy!

Sandy's change was more gradual - and she wasn't kidnapped and brought to a remote island where she was subjected to Mr Davis! Also their natural temperaments have made their responses to the changes very different. π

It's well-written, don't get me wrong, but between the transition-angst and scenario, I find Nikki a more sympathetic character. She's got a 'tragic heroine' feeling. Sandy is adapting a bit too well to have that same feeling. (It's also why I can easily relate to Chris in Homecoming.)

Well, she still needs to get used to being a woman when she's "out in the world" and not just with Josh. And college as a girl will have lots of experiences. ALSO... being a wealthy heiress isn't all champagne and caviar. π And you're right, Nikki's story is far from over. They may be "Half Sisters" but Sandy is still the older sister by about 3 years so maybe she can help guide Nikki!

You nailed it with the backgrounds too. I wanted the setting to feel lived-in and real, like a place with history and character. Is it romantic? That depends on your definition. She could've gone for opulence, but Sandy chose it because it reminded her of her past as Scott with Josh - and the future she wants to have with him as Sandy. Sandy's efforts with Josh are more about inviting him to join her in her feelings - and giving him permission to feel attracted to her DESPITE the fact that she (initially) didn't choose this destiny. But she certainly is choosing it now!

She's now a wealthy heiress, comfortable as and accepting of her new self, and has a man she loves and who loves her. Nikki has much to her story left, but where does Sandy go from here? She'll surely want to meet up with her "sister" again, but after that? Who knows? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

2024-05-20 15:50:41 +0000 UTCThis issue is yet another remarkable example of of Emory's ever increasing ability to make her graphics and writing mesh perfectly, one flawlessly complementing the other. Twenty four pages from Emory are equivalent to hundreds from most of her contemporaries. Observe carefully what she did with the wine glasses from pages #3-8! That's what an extreme commitment to detail looks like! The "Flintstone-esque" turkey leg on page #4 would normally be a comedic prop, but is instead a sensuous detail due to Sandy's dialog from the prior page. Once again, the backgrounds are a major contributor to the tale. Vintage wallpaper, beat-up kitchen cabinets, archaic refrigerator, wooden floor boards that have seen better days, the neolithic TV(rabbit ears!), the non-gigantic mattress, tell me a tender love story. Sandy knows that Josh is intimidated by her beauty and unsure about the "rightness" of his new, romantic feelings for his best friend turned temptress. She brilliantly addressed the situation. Sandy could have rented a honeymoon suite at a five-star hotel as the backdrop for her plans to seduce Josh, but knew better. She had to put him at ease. Why did she put so much thought and effort into this undertaking? BECAUSE SHE TRULY LOVES HER BEST FRIEND!

Yes, Sandy did set about seducing Josh, and sex was very much the goal, but there are much deeper emotions at play, and as she says herself, itβs not about obligation or gratitude.
