HEYLO AGAIN GUYS!

Here's for day 20 of No Northvember, Coward!

Steban struggles a lot with this feeling, especially after some strong self-disappointments he has had in the past (which of course, you'll find out about in the comic!). He carries this label with him, coming especially from some dogs in Oddwind.

Being both a pacifist and an escapist made running away a natural response to when things get too extreme or when he feels he messed up. He just feels like disappearing. That's something he shares with Martin - he can be terribly hard on himself - but this just might be justified. And I'll let you be the judge of that!

I would absolutely LOVE to hear your thoughts on this! Your comments and opinions mean a LOOT to me!!

Thank you all for your incredible support, don't forget to check out the awesome entries for this day on my Stories tonight <3

Stay well!!

Aero, this comment means so much to me. You understand Steban’s character on such a deep level it’s astonishing. You have no idea how much your words mean to me! I can never thank you enough for sharing your thoughts on this piece and on the Shut Eye’s saloon sequence. This seriously makes it all worth it! There will be a lot to unpack regarding Steban's inner self in the comic, and I’m so excited to see what you’ll think of it! Thank you for everything!!!

Awww, poor guy... Now this is a side of Steban I really want to see more of! That mysterious, troubled part of him that he keeps hidden away from others. I'm so curious about it, because it's obvious that it's such an important part of him, but he buries it so deeply beneath all of his optimism and that happy-go-lucky personality of his that you'd never know it was there. But we've already seen it come out in the past, and we know that not all is right with our boy. For me it's like when Martin saw the symbol on the rock. He knew it was something strange and inexplicable that shouldn't be there, and once he saw it he couldn't forget it. I'm immediately taken back to that scene in Shut Eye where the Devil confronts Steban in the saloon and makes her offer. We really saw some of that troubled side of him come out there, and that to me was the most powerful and memorable thing about that story. That's where I really started to get into Steban as a character. Although it's hard for me to explain, you somehow really managed to capture the mood there in a way that I could actually FEEL some of what Steban was feeling in that moment - a certain emptiness and regret he had and how tempting it was for him to accept her offer, because he so desperately wanted to put things right again, even if I didn't know exactly what those things were or what had happened to him before. But I'll never forget that look on his face when she was speaking to him. I can't explain how or why, but that scene just hit me so hard... T_T It also gave me a sense of how difficult it must've been for him to run out of there and chase down that train. Anyway, this is such a beautifully done scene here! Steban's sulking pose and that lovely lighting coming through that dark, eerie forest gives this a strange mix of gloomy and peaceful - like light-heartedness and optimism mixed with emotional burden. I wonder if this is meant to represent those conflicting aspects of his inner self?
