Marvel Comics has been doing multiverse since the 1960s as a way to put new life into stories that have had long runs. Spiderman specifically has countless iterations. So when we get multiverse type stuff in Marvel, it shouldn't be seen as nearly lazy or cheap as other movies / franchises. It has always been an integral part of marvel comics and just so happens to make it easier for them to redo movies.
