Chrysta's Dragon Transformation (Cel Shaded + A Ton of Alts)
Added 2020-10-02 00:51:02 +0000 UTCI was able to finish the cel shading on Chrysta's transformation, and I was enjoying myself so much that I made many alts! I'll give you some insight on each, though some are more thought out than others:
Alt #1 - Reverse Contrast. Uses the same general color scheme but makes the blue higher contrast and the gold lower contrast. An interesting experiment, but I think I made the right call by not doing it like this in the "final" piece.
Alt #2 - Spyro Chrysta. It's much the same as the original, but purple. It's close enough to the blue to make sense, though it's quite intense to look at.
Alt #3 - Green Dragon. A very standard dragon color scheme, and the one I was thinking of doing initially. A classic look.
Alt #4 - Red Dragon. Gold and red is one of my favorite color combos. It is common in Chinese dragons and art.
Alt #5 - White Dragon. Decided to work with milder colors to really make the gold jump out. I really like the look of this one.
Alt #6 Black Dragon. An offshot of the last alt. The darker skin makes the gold jump out even more, but it might be a bit too much. I like this one too, though.
Alt #7 Dragon Body, Human Skin. Her skin color stays the same in this one. I got this idea after receiving feedback that not every likes the intense colors. I like how it turned out.
Alt #8 Oily, Sweaty, Steamy Dragon. An experiment to shade Chrysta like she was soaked with sweat, her body heat rising beyond her control as she becomes more like a dragon. I love the shiney look but feedback rounds made me realize it only really appeals to people who have a thing for the wet/sweaty look, so I kept it as an alt for the interested.
I had so much fun with this. Next up are the final touches: Soft shading and dialogue. Stay tuned and let me know which alts you like best!
