Look at her lil' sad scrunchy faces when Pearl and Garnet are fusing so easily. I always love episodes where she gets to sing, too. Tower of Mistakes is such a good song. Also fusion can be MORE THAN ONE THING... when it's the Crystal Gems doing it, you can easily think of it as some poly lesbian throuple doing it. But there's some less romantic/less sexual fusions as well; it really is all about intimacy... at any level. Including "abusive" with Malachite and "super stable" with Garnet. It's a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge spectrum

With Pearl repairing the communication hub so she can fuse with Garnet, on top of the whole "distraction from finding Peridot and Malachite" and "endangering the Earth" things, you also have to remember that fusion MEANS something to Garnet.

The way they dance together shows the kind of intimacy they have with each other, and while fusion doesn't equal sex the more intimate dancing between Pearl and Garnet is absolutely meant to show that doing it together has a different feeling than it does for say, Pearl and Amethyst.

It's an actual violation of Garnet's trust, and as such, it's natural for it to be something that can't just be casually dismissed.

It was only figured out once people went back to having color dreams, and they looked at the historical timeframes that people had Black&White dreams.

Hate can connect people but it's no where near as stable or as desirable as a connection through love. That's what they mean to show with fusions, but they went way to sexy with the dancing

I love how much more they talk about fusion and it's importance at the beginning of the season just so we can understand/emphasise the gravity of Pearl's actions towards Garnet and the insanely difficult situation Lapis is in later. Just amazing and emotional episodes back to back

Regardless of if it’s necessarily sexual, Pearl initiating such an intimate moment with Garnet, repeatedly, under false pretenses and for her own satisfaction is very icky. It’s especially bad for Garnet who has probably the deepest feelings about what fusion MEANS. Garnet won’t be ok with Pearl for a while after this.
