Like a starlet would put on 5 pounds or have a big meal and they'd post pictures with an arrow pointed to their stomach while they're in a bulky shirt like "possible baby bump!?!" It's making a point on Ronaldo's "journalistic" integrity rather than anything really about Steven being pregnant. It's like "gem bump? Could he be pregnant!!!"

Steven is the defender, the support, the shield. Connie is the warrior, the spearhead, the sword. This episode made me love Connie that much more. Our little bookworm is a little badass now! And this was another episode that cemented Pearl as a favorite. More Rose lore. Deedee's delivery on her please to Rose is just heartbreaking. Part of why i adore Pearl is I've always been big on the protector/knight archetype. It was what I wanted to be to my friends. I was the voice of reason, always looking out for trouble. And, unfortunately, in my youth, I believed in the role the way Pearl taught it; "I don't matter". But, fortunately, none of us lived a particularly perilous existence, though one of my friends was always courting trouble and I had to play deterrent on more than one occasion. And they all saw more worth in me than I ever did at that age. "When you live for someone, you're prepared to die." No. You're no good to anyone dead. When you live for someone, you're prepared to survive.

There are several instances where the first couple episodes of a season seem to be more of a direct continuation of the previous finale than they should be and I wonder if the production schedule got more messed up than we know, especially given CN's infamous mishandling of the show's airtimes etc.

It's not just Steven that's grown either: Did you notice just how much happier and in harmony with eachother the rest of the gems are? Surprise! there's all this crazy super power and alien stuff happening, but I'd go so far as to say the show is actually about hurt people healing and growing together. Strap yourself in. It hits differently.

(Seriously, did you see the camera swoop when they were charging at Pearl? Chef's kiss.) The acting and writing were phenomenal, especially Deedee. And every time Pearl sings I get chills. It's a great episode to rewatch again and again.

2025-01-09 20:16:33 +0000 UTC"Do it For Her" is the reason I started watching this show. Mid-2015, all I knew of SU was an early promo image. Pearl's design had caught my eye, but that was about it. Didn't even know what her name was. Then, my favourite Ukulele resource site, "Ukulele Hunt" (a.k.a. "Uke Hunt" - careful how you say that) put up a page with a bunch of tabs and chords for SU songs, along with youtube videos. I am intrigued - I like a show with songs in. First up is "We Are The Crystal Gems (pilot version)", so now I know who they are. Next is "Giant Woman" - wild, out of context. Then "Do It for Her (demo version)". And I am hooked. The video is a re-edit of the montage and other bits of the episode, while the audio is Rebecca Sugar playing the uke and singing both parts. It's an incredible song. It tells you so much about Pearl in such a short space of time. About her past and her nature. It lets you know that maybe this show has gay in it! It lets you know that there's some depth in this show, some consideration of what it actually means to be heroic and self-sacrificing. I rewatched it a couple of times, then went looking for the 'real' version. Deedee's performance took it to another level, and after that I just had to see more Pearl. So, that's how I became an SU fan.
