If you go back and rewatch the monster buddies episode you can actually see that when Steven pops the bubble and release the centipeetle when it is reforming you can see it take on a humanoid appearance for just a moment before it becomes a monster, an early allusion to what Pearl says in Ocean Gem about the other gems.

You already were, but now you have a glimpse of what lies beyond. Lapis is one of my favorites right up there with Pearl and [redacted], and I'm not talking about Bloodstone. It's definitely a power shift. Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl, all badass warriors. Lapis CAN CONTROL THE ENTIRE FUCKING OCEAN. Kinda makes you think of what other powers might be out there. Or what someone might be holding back.

2024-09-26 19:56:47 +0000 UTCyeah, plus she's not exactly in a calm, rational state of mind, remember how haggard she looked when steven first got to the top of the pillar. she's still mid escape as far as she's concerned, so when offered keys to a metaphorical escape vehicle, she's not thinking about anything other than accepting them, and running as far and as fast as she can. Anything else is secondary.

It was hilarious and I take it as a sign of you being invested in the story which is awesome because this is THE show that got me into western animation 10 years ago (especially when I saw ep. 37 Alone Together). As always, I appreciate how you theorize out loud in real time! Whenever you put your ideas out there, we have a lot of fun getting to react in turn with, “if you only knew…” “you’re SO close” “ha-ha no” and “holy crap, did she really nail that one on the first guess?” Speaking of theorizing, now that you’re aware of what our heroes have been fighting you might take a moment to have a closer look at what’s happening in the animation whenever a gem reforms/gets un-bubbled in the future (or in previous episodes).

2024-09-26 18:40:21 +0000 UTCI can't overstate how dramatically mirror gem threw off my impressions of the show and where it was going when I first watched it about a month ago. In an instant SU became a thousand times more interesting to me, and I watched the rest of season 1 pretty much in one go. (currently a few episodes into season 4) I've been so excited to see the reacts for this and some stuff going forward.

Yup. It was a scene from episode 26. They told us right up front what was going to happen and nobody even saw it coming. Now imagine what else they've shown us that we don't even know. The silhouette of Cookie Cat resembling a bobcat? NOT AN ACCIDENT.

Crazy how pretty much everyone who gets cast in this show can sing, huh. Also, for the MST3K fans out there, yes, Mayor Dewey is played by Joel Hogdson, in case he sounded familiar.

2024-09-26 17:58:35 +0000 UTCIf you revisit "monster buddies", when Centi starts to reform, you can briefly see its humanoid form, I had to rewatch the episode with your reaction to realize it (damn this show does some great foreshadoing). Centi was also scared of the Crystal Gems the same way Lapis was, so you know there's even more lore behind it. But yeah, it was nice meeting Bob and learn a lil bit more about the universe. I can't pass your comparaison to She-Ra without saying that Steven Universe walked so She-Ra could run, because they had so much in common, except it not Steven who turn into a giant woman lol. Also, we let the power to heal with a kiss for the future, Steven is still a lil baby when it come to that.

2024-09-26 17:09:01 +0000 UTCIn episode 2 we learn that Rose Quartz gave up her physical form to give birth to Steven, and Steven's gem used to be hers. In episode 16 we learn that when a gem's body is badly damaged, she releases her physical form and retreats to her gem to regenerate. With those two pieces of lore we can come up with the question "Is Steven's Mom inside his gem?". The problem of this theory was that it didn't explain why she doesn't come out. After all this time she surely has had time to regenerate. Now in this episodes we see that Lapis Lazuli was trapped inside the mirror, and she wasn't able to recover her physical form until Steven removed the gem from the mirror. Could this be a similar situation? Is she trapped just like Lapis? Could Rose Quartz come out if Steven's gem was removed from him?
