HE'S NOT SCOTTISH!?!?!?!

Mind blown...

Ducktales s2 ep3 The Ballad of Duke Baloney!

Comments

Mosco, WHERE did you get Australia from... girl what.

Nuk Limpear

Fun fact! The news anchor mentions that Owlson graduated from 'Mouseton School of Business' - Mouseton is the city that Mickey Mouse lives in!

Nuk Limpear

Why is Kate Micucchi always spearfishing?

Craig Rangoon

I just started watching the next video was confused why Mosco began with recapping the events of this episode. That's when I realized I completely missed this one... HOW‽ I get alerts, how did I manage to completely miss this? So much for thinking that my ADHD is getting managed.

Syllephia

Because humans evolved from chimps.

Phineas5381

Why would Mosco's being human require the extinction of chimps? I'm not following

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Where did the Australian part come from?

AngellTheNinth

"Make it make sense!" Okay. You're a human, yet chimpanzees exist. - Was excited to see what you thought of this one, and you did not disappoint. XD

Reym

Can't wait for the episode where we find out that Glomgold's South American accent was also fake when he was a kid, and that he's actually French-Canadian

TheInnerWill

He's South African. Like Webby days: that's a South African accent.

Tyrant-Den

One of the many things I love about this show is that the biggest bastard in the whole series might just be Scrooge before becoming a family man. It's rare he comes across well in these flashbacks.

Tyrant-Den

I miss the person I was before I read that.

SweetCandle

If you want to hear his full range, he is also reaper from overwatch!

TheLesbianTrout

As someone who purchased one last year, I'm quite happy with mine!

Joey Quixote

"But that's a seagull! And he's a seagull! And-" Best not to think about it. Just enjoy the show! 🍿🍿🦆🦆 Wanna be in on a joke? Morgan just watched the first Mark Beaks episode. The one where Glomgold is scheming the whole time. At the end he takes off the fake mustache and pulls out his beard. Morgan lost it. "Is there anything real about you? I wouldn't be surprised if this bitch ain't even Scottish." They are also accepting fake spoilers. Have fun!

Joey Quixote

This is one of my favourite episodes, the intrigue surrounding Glomgold and his surprising origins as South African (NOT AUSTRALIAN) Duke Baloney had me hooked. Also, in regards to how there are both regular and anthropomorphic animals in this world, I imagine it’s similar to how we humans are believed to be evolved from apes, that over countless generations natural selection allowed certain animals (like ducks) to adapt to their environment to the point that they developed more humanoid traits.

Sam Marsh

It's not a money clip... it's Goldie's IUD

Porpoise Power

I knew the brain explosion from finding out why Glomgold's got a not quite Scottish accent was going to be good.

Porpoise Power

If Duke was so poor that he had to shine shoes for a living, then how do you think he could afford to leave Australia? Why not just shine shoes there? The answer is he didn't. He's from South Africa. The accents are just very similar to each other.

Dan_Gaming_Fan

Mosco and Louie sharing a vibe... a "Do NOT want to see that" body horror vibe.

JHB

too bad we have to wait for season 3 to find out that the money clip is really... no, I've said to much

largo778 .

Pretty sure this episode took place the same time when Huey and Dewey went to go visit Fethry.

Crimson

"Glomgold Glomgold Glomgold!"

Omegasigma

That's NOT an Australian accent Duke Baloney's doing, it's South African. He's from South Africa. Those two accents just sound very similar.

Dan_Gaming_Fan

This one has some features in common with an Aussie accent, mainly the wide "a" and "o" sounds, so it's not crazy to think that if you're not super familiar with both accents. I'm guessing this is supposed to be more of an English-speaker South African than Afrikaner accent.

dys

Where did you get Australian from? that is clearly a South African accent. Oh, by the way, I did raise my hand at 7:10

Flufux

According to the writers, he stole 2 million. Not a spoiler as the show never says so.

NERD!

Just to note a couple of things: 1. Goldie O'Gilt is Scrooge's ex-everything, so you were right on the money there (at least for the first name) 2. Duke Baloney is 100% South African; please keep him far away from us Aussies, we have enough money-grubbers as is 3. Since you were expecting a Dewey-focus episode, I'll take the chance to bring this up now: Each of the seasons focuses broadly on one of the triplets, usually dedicating a running-plotline to them. Season 1 was Dewey with the Della investigation, and Season 2's focus will be Louie with stuff I'm not gonna mention yet. And to add a fake spoiler just for some fun: Now that you know that Glomgold is notably younger than Scrooge (since he was a child when they first met), I can't wait for you to find out that he's actually Webby's father which Mrs. B has to keep a secret so that Scrooge (even though he wouldn't kick her out or anything) gives her a fair chance of being her own person, unlike when he jumped to Lena being a traitor when he first found out her connection to another of his nemesis before actually hearing her out.

Tiporax

Yes Seagulls and Seagulls exist in the Disney Universe, just remember Pluto and Goofy also exist within the same universe

NatMcK7

I’M SO GLAD YOU GAVE KEITH FERGUSON HIS FLOWERS, he’s genuinely one of my favorite VAs and YES his range is ridiculous, an example is him voicing both Glomgold and also REAPER FROM OVERWATCH.

DeadHubris

Glomgold is actually South African. South African accents just sound similar to Australian accents. Glomgold's backstory in this episode is a hybrid of his two previous backstories. When he was originally introduced in the comics in 1956, he was South African, but the 1987 cartoon changed him to Scottish to avoid associations with apartheid. The name Duke Baloney comes from an earlier comic from before Glomgold's introduction where the second-richest duck in the world is the "Duke of Baloni." This episode has my favorite dream sequence of any media I've ever seen. It has all the narrative significance of a typical fictional dream while also having all the surrealism of a real dream.

Production_Run

Originally in the comics, Glomgold was South African. But in the 80s when they were doing the original DuckTales TV series, a white South African billionaire was...problematic. So they made him Scottish. So the new TV series basically retconned the conflict away.

David Johnson

just fyi: Glomgold is completely South African. No Australia connection.

Omegon

So, here's a hot take. How much did Glomgold actually steal from Scrooge? Doesn't look like a lot of money in that clip, maybe a couple hundred at most. Even if it was only big bills, certainly less than a million. But he somehow took that and became a multi-billionaire. And we know he didn't become rich by scheming because... well, he's Glomgold. He got his wealth by being tough as nails and also one of the world's greatest treasure hunters. A notch below the likes of Scrooge and Goldie, sure, but being second-rate still puts him in the 98th percentile. I don't know exactly what he's been doing with his whole life, but he's obviously doing something right.

Rachel Espiritu

5:56 I don't know if you've noticed, but they've replaced one of the Beagle Boys with Magica De Spell in the portraits of the villains in the intro now. She's a main part of the cast, like in the original show now.

Dan_Gaming_Fan

Been waiting for your reaction to this episode

Kayla Ryan

4:15 Yeah, the rules of what animals are or aren't anthropomorphic in this universe are weird. It's the Goofy and Pluto thing all over again. It's best not to think about it, honestly. Disney sure doesn't except for a few gags.

Dan_Gaming_Fan

Glomgold: The most Scottish Mosco: *shortcircuits* But... But I'M THE MOST SCOTTISH!

Rachel Espiritu

It's okay Mosco. We understand that it's difficult to not be as Scottish as Glomgold. Given he's the most Scottish duck ever.

Alex Koder

**Loud cracking sounds as re-aligns broken fingers**

Alex Koder

Wouldn't a Reverse Werewolf just be a Wolfwere from D&D? I.e. a wolf that can turn into a human.

Alex Koder

Goldie O'Gilt is Scrooge's Ex. Ex partner, ex lover, ex-pert at stabbing him in the back.

Alex Koder

How comfortable is the Hoodie? Because I could use another, but I'm worried about it having that...weird texture that some hoodies have.

Alex Koder

Been looking forward to your reaction to the Duke Baloney reveal..
