I'm sad there won't be anymore reactions for a while! I feel you 1000% on the boring male lead having the much cooler women fall in love with him for no reason, and I'm also a queer woman looking for more queer women in media... and yet I really like Callum and Rayla's dynamic. Maybe it helped that I interpreted this as Rayla realizing for the first time that she had feelings for Callum and in an emotional moment, sacred of losing him, almost blurted out the "L" word even though it would have been more accurate to say "I care deeply about you as as friend and am starting to realize I like you as more than a friend." I don't know if that's what was intended, but that's how I took it.

CoreenXavierson

You're mentioning things that haven't been shown nor mentioned in the show yet.

Vilmu

This show is fairly equal when it comes to relationships so far Ethari and ruunan (gay) callum and rayla (straight) there is also a lesbian pairing so who cares if two main are straight it plays no part in the overall story and btws she's 16 with those hormones she doesn't need much to be in love if she's attracted also I hate the trope that blushing signify setup that's true for shy people, they're confident people also no setup says the person who ships amara with every female cept rayla of course

Daniel Potts

Callum: The First Airbender Also, if you watch the previous episode again it’s pretty apparent that Callum’s dream is basically his subconscious trying to piece together everything he knows about Sky magic. At one point he is the sail of a ship in a storm that turns out to be in a primal stone that he is holding which is pretty much his big revelation, that the world is one big primal stone.

A Magic Duck

queen amaya? AWESOME.

Neetaku

Granted, it is kind of trope-y to have a cis-het romantic relationship with the two leads, but from my autistic ace perspective it seemed pretty well set up. At least, from the outside, that kinda relationship looks like that to me, but obviously other opinions are valid. Maybe more so since I don’t have the kind of experience on this kinda crap.

Tangerra

I get that, I do think maybe showing a scene of either of them (or both) blushing or something like that woul've made it better, maybe a few more scenes of them flirting too

Álex Martínez

Hey! D'you remember my comment on the Book 1 finalé? About Amaya's wrestling arc? Psych! I got you so good! That doesn't start until Book 3! Classic misdirection! And that, kiddies, is how you do a fake spoiler! But it's funny that you accidentally said "Queen Amaya" instead of "Queen Aanya", because part of the whole wrestling arc is the Queen's Cup where Amaya must wrestle the current queen for her title! I don't wanna spoil the ending, but the whole arc is anime tournament arc levels of insanity. And to think, this all started over spicy Xadian tacos. And that's not counting everything going on in the background! -Viren gets a bad case of pink-eye while in prison and starts seeing things. It gets so bad that he has to retire from the path of villainy where, inspired by his buggy cohort, he becomes an entomologist. He learn to enjoy life, spends more time with his family, gets his pilot's license. Ya know, middle-aged white guy shit. -Bait becomes a Dad! You get to witness the courtship rituals of a Glowtoad in an entire episode shot as a nature documentary. They even got David Attenborough to narrate! I think this was intended to give Bait and family a spinoff series. I'd watch it! -Weirdly, they drop the whole subplot about Rayla's parents. There's plenty of speculation as to why. Personally, I think the writers just felt, with everything else going on, there wouldn't be a significant emotional payoff. But, that's just my two cents. -Don't get to upset about the deer Claudia  killed! For soon, you will meet their avenger! A Xadian Deerfolk named Bam'bi the Flatulent! Best new addition to the cast! And such a prankster! He'll just creep up on someone and go "Do you smell rain?" And they sniff, but it's not rain! Farts! Every time! Never gets old! And mark my words, he's gonna take Claudia out! I still don't get why some people think he's a doe, when he's very clearly a buck. I very much look forward to you getting back to the show! Hopefully don't lose Elijah to Amaya in her wrestling singlet!

Moscow: You're not wearing the right armor! Me: I understood that reference!

If we only talk about where Mosco left off, my opinion on Rayla and Callum was closer to hers than Elijah's when I first watched the episode. I didn't feel like their relationship had not been developed until this point, it had, and it had always been a joy to watch how great, solid, comfortable, fun and caring it was, but I felt like it was friendship. Again, I'm a sucker for a good friends to lovers dynamic, and I was glad that Rayla and Callum had genuinely clicked the "friends" part, unlike, indeed, most shonen hetero dynamics where the girl barely speaks to the main male character who doesn't give a shit and yet somehow loves him because that's the entire point of her character. But I need to see the "to" part of the "friends to lovers", the shift through body language, stares, words said to one another and about one another, reactions, settings, to actually believe it, and I just couldn't see it then, and certainly not on Rayla's part. I agreed with Elijah on the symbolism of Callum drawing Rayla after he drew Claudia. I could see why Callum's description of Rayla in his letter to his dad at the beginning of s2 could be understood as "he speaks so highly of her it could be something more", though the rest of what had been shown so far just made me feel like it was admiration rooted in friendship. And that was pretty much it to me, and all on Callum's part. Again, I'm not talking about my pov now, because what we've seen after that made me reconsider that scene, but I definitely understand why I felt like that back then and Mosco's current stance on this

Azirapalala

They were a few hours from the border with Zadia. Zadia is half of the entire continent, and their goal isn't right on the border.

SweetCandle

Xadia is a whole half of the continent. They were a few hours from the border, not from the dragon queen.

SpaceNerd

To quote my comment on Elijah’s video here too: “And so, the bird was never seen again... And he disappeared... JUST before Ezran, the only one that can SPEAK to animals, returned to Katalos... Suspicious? I THINK SO!!!!!” This (above) is a minor spoiler, but one I think bares mentioning. This is why people get into arguments in your comments and why people say it both is/isn’t impossible. We’re six season in, and King Harrow is STILL not confirmed to be in the bird… but… it hasn’t been “de-confirmed” either… I still believe. ( ̄^ ̄)ゞ 🦅 (Also, I don’t often like het ships either myself, but… Rayllum my beloved. *covers their ears.* Don’t listen to her, my precious. They’re besties, your honour! They just… match each other’s freak).

Ríon

Mosco sees something dangerous: "I'm gonna pet it!" Someone else: "are you petting the thing that's been trying to kill us?" 😅😂🤣

Catradora fan

so they were a few hours from xadia not a few hours from the dragon queen important distinction

SK- Eferthigra

Their relationship is very different from the trope though, their relationship is actually very well developed even before that scene, even Elijah talked about this in her reactions to the show

Álex Martínez

Damn it. Normally I’m good with spoilers but I was too sure that a specific scene had already happened.

Bernhard

Actually, we haven't seen dragons talk to humans...at this point in the series.

Flufux

Agreed. At least Legend of Korra put some work into setting up the Avatar and her girlfriend. (Honestly, I'll never get tired of Asami trying to teach Korra how to drive XD)

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Indeed, she fawns over him quite a bit...

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

I'm a sucker for a good friends to lovers dynamic, but when I first saw the episode and Rayla apparently beginning to confess, I also felt like it came out of nowhere. Apart from the symbolism of Callum drawing her in the same sketchbook he drew Claudia in (and that was on Callum's part, only two episodes before that), I hadn't picked any hints. The "main trio with two guys and one girl being in love with one of them for no reason except that he's a man her age and the main character" is such a bad shonen trope I was also annoyed, even though Rayla is a character of her own and didn't go full "Kurosaki-kun" on Callum. That's just about that episode, not telling anything about what's coming, but I completely agreed

Azirapalala

you didn't 🤣

Azirapalala

Like i said under her reaction, you need to see Elijah's one, if it's not already ^^.

Spadeas

I wish I could post GIFs because this deserves a standing ovation.

Ryan Porter

How long were they away from Xadia again Mosco? I felt like you’ve said it already, but needed to hear again one more time. 🤣

Liam Gradwell

Soren is very deer to Claudia

Porpoise Power

Ezran wouldn’t have left at that time if they were just hours from meeting the dragon queen. His decision was actually very adult; he clearly trusted Callum and Rayla to complete the mission and put his duty as king over what he probably would have preferred to do. As to his talent for speaking with animals—that isn’t an issue with dragons. We [redacted] know that the elves communicate with them.

Bernhard

Hey, Aaravos is the GOAT! You shut your mouth!

Sekiro

Heard of him, no, but he's in the opening of the first episode.

David Johnson

Didn't watch it. It isn't even the age thing. UT just felt like the relationship between aang and katara had no work to it. Just happened. Like youbdont see then really falling in love.

Suplee215

It's actually one thing I really appreciated in the Netflix live action version, they didn't do the weird lovesick 12 year old thing

William Timmins

They are a few hours from the border of Xadia, not necessarily from where the dragon queen is.

William Timmins

This is such a turning point, because up until this point everyone accepted 'humans can't do magic, except cheaty dark magic.' BUT NO

William Timmins

"She's at risk of doing something terrible..." (five minutes later) "Claudia, no!" They're a few hours from the _border_ of Xadia. They still have to get *across* it. If crossing the Moonstone Path was all it took to make you exit stage left and make some tea, you're going to need a lot more tea... or maybe something stronger. Hiatus? You mean we have to wait until *next year* to see you freak the fuck out over Aunt Amaya's wrestling outfit?

Ryan Porter

I agree the main character getting with the main girl character is a trope I hate. Its the only flaw in avatar the last Airbender to me. I didn't think of that when watching this show too much but I don't remember what my reaction to this scene was.
