As some of you may know, Patreon has apparently been slowly rolling out a new "Anniversary Subscription" payment model.
This basically means when you initially pledge to a Patreon account, this date will become when your account is charged each month.
While this payment model works for big companies, such as Discord Nitro's monthly payment from your point of subbing, it's bad for Patreon because many people pledge to multiple creators.
Essentially, the prior model was you were charged at the beginning of the month for EVERY creator your pledge to under one transaction. The new one now charges you THROUGHOUT the month to every creator you pledge to, meaning there's multiple transactions and therefore multiple fees being taken out, which harms both creators and patrons.
From a creator standpoint, this means that we won't have a reliable payout each month since every patron will be charged whenever they initially pledged, which, while not too big of a deal for me, since Patreon is supplemental to my primary income, is very harmful for those who rely on it as their primary income. It also creates issues with creators who ship physical goods rewards each month.
And of course, as y'all can imagine, this is exceptionally bad for those who aren't in the US, as international fees can stack up.
If Patreon goes through with these changes, I'm unsure what I will do, but I will keep you guys posted.
** And, on a side note, I will also be posting one more $5 Imp tier Patreon reward tonight or tomorrow for the month of January.
