Jack you NEED to check out the manga for the end of Ketil's farm. Also Thorfinn was way more messed up in those panels making Canute not recognize him more apparent. They also explain pretty much everything that happened to everyone at Ketil's farm after like Thorgil who was only shown walking away here.
