2022-09-26 22:02:16 +0000 UTCWhile it's not an episode I'm particularly bothered about, it does showcase alot of what the last season of Buffy is giving us fans and that's call backs to earlier seasons; from the love spells, Hecate, inappropriate relations stemming from curses, general silly/comical episodes and the ever famous Buffy with a rocket launcher. You even found one I hadn't noticed before, a call back to Buffy on the bleachers.

2022-08-10 17:11:13 +0000 UTCThe song/Anya stabbed cut might be my fave of the show, it's brutal. And it's really clever because a season ago, they specifically said that you can't kill a vengeance demon with a sword through the chest, but they know that either you'll have forgotten generally, or you'll forget in the moment because you're pulled into the emotion.

2022-07-31 15:44:54 +0000 UTCSelfless was a good episode to kind of reset Anya and I guess you could say affirm her humanity. It's a good episode, but overall I'm not sure what the point of the whole "returning to being a vengeance demon" arc was just to end up back here. I actually think Xander was being a little unfair in his assessment though. First, Willow was blinded by grief, and she was drunk on magic. More importantly however Warren was a (attempted) rapist and serial killer. He definitely deserved it, it was just a question of whether Willow could come back from killing a human being, even one as deplorable as Warren. What the frat boys did was shitty, sure, but they didn't break the law of kill anyone. Humiliating someone is a dick move, but it doesn't justify mass murder, especially when Anya(as opposed to Willow) was completely clear headed, and was basically doing it because of peer pressure. Buffy had to assume she'd do it again. I actually hate that Buffy went the whole route of saying "it's different, she's a demon". That really wasn't the point. The point is she was mass murdering people for being, what, insensitive? Kinda disproportionate. I will say there's is some merit to what he says about Spike. Even if he's harmless when the chip was holding him back, it never erased his crimes, and he didn't feel regret. It's arguably different now that he's re-ensouled and he knows right from wrong, but between getting the chip and getting his soul, pretty much everyone except Xander and Giles whitewashed over a century of murder. OTOH though, you could also say the same for Anya. Him wasn't a great episode to say the least, and there's some VERY heavy cringe. But like Brent said it's a calm before the storm type episode. Something they could have a little fun with before shit hits the fan. Spike tackling Buffy with the AT4 and the whole almost Mission Impossible sequence of them all going about their plans to win over RJ. Also Brandon Keener played the older brother, and as a Mass Effect fan, I can't not hear Garrus Vakarian as a washed up dude working in a pizza place, begging random people to hang out with him. They're still hinting at whatever the big story this season is with D'Hoffryn dropping another "from beneath you it devours", but the show is still finding a rhythm for this season.

2022-07-30 20:45:08 +0000 UTCFinally got caught up on the reactions, thanks for these two. Neither of these episodes were a dream, they really happened. In episode 5 I really really love how they showed Aud's backstory, finally we got to see her origin story, though we have heard it before. And, I also love how they tied in the musical episode, they actually created a new song and she sang it new, for this, that's pretty awesome, she's got a great singing voice. Then I love the abrupt cut to her being dead on the wall, she was so in love, and now it's come to this. That cut was genius. It also finally seems resolved now, She's human again, and is living as a human, no longer a vengeance demon. She's made her path, and realized she couldn't be a demon any longer, good for her. I really really really loved the convo between Xander, Buffy and Willow in regards to how to deal with her, that was just a real solid scene and smart dialog. Now for episode 6, I just really see this is as giving the show a breath, a rest, between some intense episodes, it needed a breather from what happened in episode 5, and what is to come for the overall arc, so it's jus ta comedic breather episode, and a growth episode for Dawn. No biggie, just take it for what it is. Now, on to the bigger plot, Spike is out of the basement, and yes he was seeing people, now the question is, were those people he was seeing real or just a hallucination?

2022-07-30 06:16:18 +0000 UTCThat's how I felt about BtVS and Angel, but I don't think I even gave Buffy a chance until Angel existed. Personally, I prefer the movie because it never took itself too seriously.

2022-07-28 22:12:22 +0000 UTCi think "him" is the worst episode of the season so i agree with your sentiments about that episode lol. except for me its worse because i didn't enjoy any aspects of the episode or find any of the bits funny (not even buffy trying to kill principal wood).
