So the DVD is different. Noticed that on ther very first "movie pilot episode and the 3rd episode" it was different from what I knew. Maybe I should buy the missing dvd's. xD

It's funny, from what I remember there was a longer ending to this episode. Well, slightly longer. I always remember them looking down at the gate and Elliot being carried to it. Maybe it's on the DVD. Ever since I've seen this ending and I've always been so confused. I know the Sy-Fi channel cuts scenes sometimes or cuts scenes shorter than they should be. On another note, I've only recently joined Patreon (yours and JV's), and I just wanted to say thanks as I was admitted to hospital this last weekend for the first time in my life and your backlog of SG episodes kept me sane. So thanks 😊

:( Poor Elliot

I didn't want to say anything earlier, but when you go back and watch SG1 a second time, you definitely notice how they were setting Elliot up for this. Showing how he was willing to sacrifice himself to close the gate, you can definitely see they had his sacrifice here planned out at that time. Also O'Neill in that ep is all like "you left one of your people behind, that is something I will not tolerate", and O'Neill here is just like "so, uhh......I'm gonna go now". I agree that the episode ended abruptly, but I never tend to be confused by such endings. The conversations about repairing the cargo ship, releasing the poison at the gate, or releasing it early if they find it to take out as many as he can, all meant to give the viewer a picture of what would happen so they could keep the episode under the time limit, Either he takes out the army at the gate and the rest move in after the poison dissipates and gate home, or he takes out a chunk of jaffa near the crash site and that buys time to fix the cargo ship. Was good to get closure on Martouf/Lantash. I remember seeing this episode before the earlier seasons and being so confused. Martouf was only around 1.5 seasons, but definitely a memorable character. And very interesting dietary habits those system lords have. Are they trying to keep numbers low to prevent competition, are they trying to limit the supply of symbiotes to maintain tighter control over the jaffa, or do they just like tasty treats. Hard to say. Yu kinda kicked ass this episode. Aside from pimp smacking Danny across the cargo ship, buddy gets stabbed and seconds later he's all "ain't done with you yet". Most impressive though is being the singular vote to not accept Anubis back. Not only would this presumably put him in conflict with this powerful new(old) adversary, but all the other major players as well. Guy's got balls for sure. He was like "Nah, I remember what that fucker did last time. You new kids are in over your heads". Pretty good 2 parter, put Daniel in an unusual circumstance for his character and gave Skanks something new to work with. Shame about the tok'ra, and so soon after the tollan at that. Earth is running out of allies. At least our boys the asgard are still kicking around.

Hey now, Jacob is a likeable tok'ra! :)

Ugly Pig

The end of the episode really hit me, even more because i didn't remember these episodes or what happened to Elliot at all. That poor kid on his first mission, hearing the jaffa closing in. I hope he makes by some miracle, but that felt pretty final. Let's be honest, they could use a likeable tok'ra :(

Yep, they are eating the symbiotes, hence the downfall in population growth. I agree with you that the ending was abrupt, would have liked to have seen him dragged to the gate, then releasing the toxin, then SG1 going home, would have been a more full ending. I dunno why it stopped there, I guess time or money or both. A good two-parter overall, we learned quite a bit. Also, not sure if you noticed but in the cargo ship with Sarah Daniel did prick her with the neurotoxin stuff on his finger, that is what caused her to pause, he said "It's me Daniel" so she reverted her back to recognizing him as Daniel, which gave her a moment's pause and allowed him to escape. If we do see her again in the future, she should recognize him now and won't think he's Yu servant. Oh, and I want to add, the symbiote eating scene was disturbing and quite dark. I like that they went there.

I think it was implied to be removing competition

"spinoff focusing on the lives of lotars" I'm getting all sorts of Spartacus vibes just thinking about it

Timothy Nikiforovs

I do think the β€œI think I know why there aren’t any more Gou’ld.” Line was referring to them eating them. Though I don’t remember why they were or if it is explained.

Andrew Dubbel

ANUBIS. Just hearing that name will always give me chills.

I just want to say that symbiote tub is a SICK setpiece - it impresses me every time. And FailWhale's "oh" at the lunchbreak was priceless. This episode makes me think they could get away with a spinoff focusing on the lives of lotars - struggles to get to that position, tests to prove themselves, things they witness at meetings like this, and how rumors of tokra infiltration affect their ability to do their job. It was good to get closure for Sam, strange the episode ended with less, a criticism many had, but still - this is a great two-parter, in my opinion.

Oh shit double bubble? We are blessed. Lore drop!
