The exact same. The look of disappointment on Failwhale's face when the frog arrived was everything I felt and more...!

Mark Ward

The frog is also on Ryan's desk in episode 1. I found this episode bonkers but brilliant.

Stephen

My first comment seems to have vanished but you have made the points I was making and made them more succinctly, so thanks :) I like the absurd, abstract, off-the-wall too, so I loved the frog. And DW had a tendency, especially under SM to get very inward-looking and obsessed with itself, so although having it be in the form of an old Doctor or companion would make thematic sense in the story, I'm glad they did something different, something delightfully random :)

Phil Birkett

Surprised that wasn't picked up on, it gets used a lot. 🙂

Mr K

I like the frog, but then I like the absurd and abstract. Very glad they didn't just re-use Grace and no offence but I'm very glad you were not in the writers room this time and making it personal to The Doctor with bringing back Capaldi or a duplicate of herself or whatnot. 🙂 Would be interesting to see your reaction to Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Now I'm not sure you'd like it. 🙂 (The TV series, not the awful film)

Mr K

Also, the Doctor's reaction to the frog was very Pertwee - I always loved how the Third Doctor made a point of treating aliens that people found strange/terrifying with courtesy and respect; his whole thing was treating every sentient creature with kindness and thoughtfulness, regardless of appearance or reputation. I think that works for "silly" aliens as well as scary ones.

Phil Birkett

I get why people hate the frog - but I love it. I really enjoy it when shows (or musicians, or books, or whatever) do something really off-key. I like things that are a bit weird sometimes. Being an old companion or an old Doctor or something does sound initially like a good idea, and would work within the setup of how the entity chose forms we like, but sometimes I think Dr Who gets a little too self-referential for its own good. I liked how the first couple of season of New-Who just sprinkled back references over the top very sparingly - made it feel special. These days, especially in Moffat-Who, it all got very inward-looking. I thought is was quirky and charming that this crazy-powerful entity, it just digs frogs, man. It's an outsider to our universe so it doesn't see frogs as comical or silly or low-status, or whatever. It's looking at a whole universe from the outside and it thinks frogs are delightful. I really enjoy slightly oddball stuff like that. This was head and shoulders the best episode of the season, in my opinion. Proper atmospheric, mysterious, off-the-wall, strangely touching Dr Who.

Phil Birkett

Graham hasn't gotten the fist bump because he hasn't earned it yet. He DID earn being called Granddad, which was still a big deal.

Carroll

I don’t get your hatred towards knock knock, but I like how their holding back the fist bump. When’s it gonna happen? How hard will it be?

Ward Junior

I don’t appreciate the single dad hate this ep but I think I like the frog thing more than most people

Ward Junior

I liked the frog, it's in context to the story and was funny 🐸

Cooper Vision

I'm with you. It was an episode that was on track for the most part. But then as soon as the frog comes on screen all that momentum that had built up making me think that maybe this series is not all that bad. The episode just falls off a cliff quicker than I've ever seen before. Just a lesson in what not to do I thought.

Daryl

Notice how the Doctor doesn't give a shit about Graham at the end

This was one of my favourite episodes of the series. They tried something different, it didn't land for everybody, but most importantly, they tried something. The frog itself didn't bother me at all.

Stephen Ray

You could probably tell but the girl who played Hanne is actually blind irl, so that's really cool. And both the parents are actual Norwegian actors, and the one who plays the mom, Lisa Stokke, has the Norwegian voice for Elsa in Frozen!

Lilly M.

I had the same reaction to Kill The Moon. The Moon is a giant spider egg? C'mon! Both stories had so much potential to be better than what they ended up being. A frog??? Really? They couldn't imagine some other worldly strange being? Why not have a being similar to the Great Intelligence? Put us in the writers room.

DinoX7

Like i was down for the dad faking out his daughter even with this kinda BS anti matter dimension because its trying to coax people into staying worked very well, but i feel like anti zone thing was all because we need a more serious threat or monster of the week since this whatever its called wasnt really a monster just as lonely god kinda like the doctor. But then yea the doctor promised all this stuff didnt deliver and we got a super campy frog which i wonder if anyone make an alternate version. dont think it would be too hard to do with todays technology

Magus

I think in any other series, they would have put in a former companion instead of the frog, or River Song even. But this series there has been a conscious effort not to rely on the past, to give it a clean break. A pallet cleanser if you like. And for that reason, I think something random like the frog works better. But if they'd ditched the frog and just had an empty white room and a voice, I would have preferred it. I think this was the lowest budget episode of the series, limited sets etc. I think that's the greatest shame because the concept is better than that.

Matgo Styles

I know there is a ton of hate for the frog, but I feel all the love for it. I am pleasantly surprised there some pro-frog folks here.l as well. I understand what others say about how they could have done it differently and that it was a good idea, poorly executed but I totally feel like the frog makes sense and it doesn't bother me at all. Also, really like the episode. Ribbons was an interesting character that died in mystery, flesh moths are cool, yeah liked it.

Patrick McMahon

I’m trying to forget this episode exists 🐸

@WebSquirrel

Frog 🤪 Great episode tool that happened ... p.s. Reverse the Polarity, the third doctor used to always say that https://youtu.be/QDaCMhKPGys and then it kinda stuck for future Doctors ...

Damn if you really push for it in the next week and a half you'll be caught up and be able to watch the next episode with us live! Pretty exciting. Even if you don't push that hard you'll probably catch up for the episode after the next one coming up anyways.

Frog-in-a-chair time!

The frog is pretty 50/50 for fans of Who. Personally I loved it just because it feels so who. The best idea I've heard on how it could have been better is for it to take a form of something the doctor loves and has lost - but we don't actually see it. The doctor just says something like "that won't work on me" and then we see the frog version.

Oliver Harrison

I would have liked to see them explore the other dimension more and flesh that out than this cave bit in between dimensions to me it made the story feel disconnected like they had 2 concepts for stories and slapped them together to make 1 episode because they couldnt flesh out 1 episode. That might just be me though. I find thats the case with a lot of 2 parters as well they have too much for 1 story but not enough for 2 so they have to add a bunch of filler then the episode suffers for it.
